StrongSoldier: ...they are not mandatory for them.
...were not mandatory.
...even though they weren't required.
You seem to be greatly annoyed by people who complain about things which are not mandatory.

While I understand and respect your opinion, let me point out, just for the sake of your own blood pressure, that reading and posting in threads that anger you deeply is also not mandatory.

Be safe and healthy.

Time will tell about GOG's future, Time will tell about Zoom's future, but I am going to continue to shop at both until either one goes down.

Hopefully GoG got at least 5 years of life left in it same with Zoom.

Time will tell. Sooner or Later. Time will tell.
Zoom has good customer support. Response within hours and very customer friendly.

I had issues with an order. Paid for 3 games, only 1 got added to my account.
They didn't see the order id on their side and suggested I cancel my cc transaction, which I did.
We exchanged some e-mails. They not only offered an apology, but also a free game (I chose the 1 (4.99) game which did get added to my account during this issue).
Ultimately it turned out to be a problem on their end.
I have a few games wishlisted on their site which aren't here and will buy from them in the future.

As far as the whole discussion about GOG goes in earlier comments, you'll never get 100% customer satisfaction. Don't like the store due to recent decisions? Vote with your wallet.
I also don't get all of GOG's decisions. I'm hoping they have some long term goal they're working to and actually have a vision to get there.
Communications however, could be better and earlier. Announce changes before implementing them and not when implementing them or when having implemented them. Also be clear to none Galaxy users as they slowly seem to be getting 2nd class citizens here.
As for DRM, DRM-free is the only selling point compared to Steam. Giving that up would be their downfall.

Luckily, zoom-platform is still 100% dedicated to DRM-free. So I'll continue to get games from there. And yes, their support is friendly and quick to reply. Not like the long, reticent silence we have learned to expect from GOG.

GlorFindel: Yes, they are added 5+ years after release! And no, GOG is losing more than gaining from recent decisions!
This is also reflected in their net profits per quarter, which shows they often(minus things like their parent company's titles and such) barely make a decent profit.

Heck, without the influx of cash from CDPR I doubt they'd be doing as well as they are.....so here's hoping that CDPR can continue to make profitable games.

rjbuffchix: Not all "complaints" are the same thing and not all the users you are saying "complain" are the same ones. The "complaints" about DRM are indeed "problems", since the branding of the store is to be DRM-free. And isn't a business supposed to listen to its customers? Even the minority? Or is their money worth less?
All complaints and criticism (if posted civilly through the proper channels...like the correct forum threads and other methods) are valid, imo, and should be be allowed to be heard.

Or being told to "try the game on galaxy" as a "solution" to a non-working game...etc etc.

Linko64: I don't think anyone is 'hiding' behind Zoom video conference mate, it's just two services with a similar name. Is GOG hiding behind the Goverment of Ghana?
Tbh I don't get the actions(or lack thereof) of the ones (in general) who keep throwing shade on Zoom.

I mean, if anyone here thinks zoom is shady, then why not contact the rights holders and tell them about their games being on zoom and/or ask if the game copies sold on zoom are legal?

I'm guessing it likely wouldn't take too long to send out a few emails asking questions and/or informing rights holders that their games are on zoom......if anyone here wants to find out if the zoom game copies are above board or wants to inform the rights holders their games are on zoom they can and should go right ahead and do so.

But what happens if Zoom grows as big as GOG and lets an Absolver or No Man's Sky into their store, and then a new 100% DRM-free store has to pop up and the process starts all over again until the end of time?

Yes. I hope so. I hope that there will always be a source for buying games and not renting the license to play them. I know that the industry goes in the direction of game-streaming. But that's not something I want and I won't spend money on DRM-ed games. So I rather support the small stores that still serve the niche of DRM-free gaming. Which isn't GOG anymore. We, the DRM-free crowd, have become 'too niche' for GOG.
I signed up for Zoom Platform and I've moved a bunch of games from my GOG wishlist to my ZP wishlist:

- Master of Orion 1+2
- Leisure Suit Larry Collection
- XIII
- Commandos, Behind Enemy Lines
- Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising
- Jagged Alliance 2
- Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

They also have some classic games GOG don't have:

- AvP Gold
- Duke Nukem 3D

I plan to buy a handful of those over the Christmas period. Perhaps once I have finished them all, I will come back and shop at GOG some more ... ;-)

I bought the following games on Zoom Platform over the past couple of days:

- Commandos, Behind Enemy Lines
- Aliens vs Predator Gold
- Duke Nukem 3D

I'm playing on Linux and overall the experience has been good. All games have offline installers, which downloaded with no problems.

AvP Gold comes with Classic 2000 as well. It runs flawlessly out of the box in Wine. Beautiful game ... omg, so tense and atmospheric. I had a quick go on the first alien level, so much fun! :-D

Commandos was a bit more tricky to get working in Wine. I had to fiddle about quite a bit. Although, reading some of the reviews on the GOG store page and posts in the Commandos forum, it seems a lot of people have had similar issues getting the GOG version to run as well in newer versions of Windows. In particular, I had to rename the 'Commandos.EXE' file 'Commmandos.EXE' and it somehow magically worked. Game seems to be running fine now.

Duke 3D runs great in Dosbox, as I had expected.

If you like classic Resident Evil style mechanics/look/feel.....I recommend Curse: Eye Of Isis. It plays like those games, but with a storyline set around a cursed egyptian artifact.

Maxvorstadt: Hmm, not ba at first glance. But... can I pay via Paysafecard? Couldn`t find info about that on the site.

Grargar: Seems to be Paypal-only.
It showed two choices for me, with the other just being Credit/Visa card.

I grabbed all their free games the other day - 8 in all, most of which are available here and for free, but a few exceptions.

I also bought 4 games from them today after installing some of the others just to check the DRM-Free factor ... all good.

For those using my GOGPlus Download Checker program, it works a treat with the ones I have tried so far, even checking the BIN files automatically when checking the EXE file.

I bought the following, which weren't too bad price wise, but most seem a bit overpriced considering, so I can't see myself buying too many more.

$2.99 USD - CT Special Forces - Fire For Effect
$4.99 USD - Duke Nukem - Manhattan Project
$4.99 USD - El Matador
$2.99 USD - Marine Sharpshooter 2 - Jungle Warfare

None of those are here at GOG. Still thinking of getting Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition for $4.99 USD, but just wish they had it bundled with Duke Nukem 1 and Duke Nukem 2, like on my CD and when GOG had them here.

A nice clean store, no bloat, but it could do with some more game detail, as aside from a video it's about as basic as it gets ... almost ugly. You also cannot jump from your library game entry to its web page, which is a pain.

pbaggers: I'm legitimately on the fence right now about creating an account and buying their re-release of Killing Time, since I've been trying to get that game to work for a while. Their total lack of reputation and hideous web-page design is looking iffy to me...
LOL. I wouldn't call it hideous, just bare bones as it gets. Better than bloat.

Killing Time is free there for me, though I'd already bought it at GOG way back when.

P.S. Yes I know I responded to old posts, but maybe it will help new readers. ;)

Not anymore, thanks to an email just now from Steam.

I rarely buy games at Steam, but they kind of solved my dilemma by having Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour on sale for $2.99 AUD ... 90% off. So I made it a rare exception ... only my third purchase from Steam in about 12 years.

That version is a revamped Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition with a 5th episode with lots of new levels etc.

Only way I could get it, so I bit the bullet ... only a couple of bucks, so future proof in that sense, though doubtful it will ever turn up here unless someone else takes over with ownership.

Why are you running Duke 3D in Dosbox when Eduke32 exists?
