In this article about the "GoG Twitter affair": https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-10-23-zombie-orpheus-cancels-contract-with-gog-over-transphobia I found the following quote:

"Zombie Orpheus has promised to provide free replacement copies from other sources of its films to those who owned them on GOG."

So this seems to mean, that all copies of their movies will be deleted in your library and you have to beg Zombie Orpheus for giving you the movie(s) back that you`ve paid for!!!

Relax, GOG doesn't remove stuff from your account.

That would be a first to my knowledge so far as removed content from GOG. Definitely don't support this, and would never again support this distributor in the future if that is the case. That sets a terrible precedent.

I like their movies. But their business behavior is childish.

Honestly I suspect that Gog removing the movies from sales was more a question of "good will" on their side rather than really any strong legal requirements to do so.

Contracts usually cannot be broken on a whim and unless Gog's contracts makes include a "we can cancel this contract anytime if you say something we don't like on your Twitter" clause, I am not sure if they really had any legal way to force Gog to remove said movies before the contract expiration date if they didn't want too.

Yes , if the publisher force them to remove the files from their servers .

Eh. I read it more along the lines of "If you leave GOG over this and go to some other service, we'll provide a free replacements so you don't have to go back".

More of an incentive for people to leave GOG than a threat about removing things from GOG user accounts.

I'm sure all of the contracts GOG has with each publisher or distributor have escape clauses for each party. Even if they didn't, I agree, it would make sense for GOG to just play nice and let them go, especially for a partner that probably doesn't turn a lot of dollars for them.

But what I was getting at was that IF the products get removed from accounts, and that's a big if, than that shows one of two things happening.

1. GOG contracts have allowances for this that they have implied they don't have.
2. That GOG would be allowing the distributor to dictate this and going along with it despite what it in the contract.

Neither of these are a particularly good thing for us as consumers on this platform.

I expect that a specific clause of any GOG contract is something along the lines of "Once a sale has been made, it cannot be revoked from a user's account. This applies even if GOG or [entity] decide to no longer sell an item in the store."

Edit: Considering the nature of the downloads from GOG, such a standard clause makes sense. Not like they can do anything about the off-line installers, even if they wanted to.

Yes but escape clauses are usually for serious offense, for example if Gog start posting the game on torrent site, or if Gog discover that the devs is actually not the real owner of the game rights or is using stolen assets, or in general for things breaking what was agreed in the contract, I am pretty sure that "not liking something Gog post on Twitter" doesn't count as a valid reason for an escape clause.

Normally the only thing you can do is wait for the contract to expire. (unless of course both parties comes to an agreement and decide to cancel the contract)

I don't think they can, after all you can still download games which you bought but which where subsequently removed from the store over copyright issues or the likes.

The whole sentence is written in past tense, and mixing tenses is generally a No-No.

Basically, ZO is saying "If you owned this on GOG, then we'll provide a free replacement from some other source."
They aren't offering anything that would actually cost them any money (under the assumption that a given person is only going to buy themselves one copy).

I've still got "The Gamers" in my account (and holy crap, it is selling for ~$80 on Amazon??), but it isn't showing up when I look at the Store page for movies. We're fine.

On this whole debacle: GOG didn't do anything wrong imo. Sure, ZOE are entitled to their opinion and their, in my opinion, crass overreaction to a tweet that simply used a hashtag. But the second they want to remove other peoples property for a personal disagreement with the distribution platform, they are in for some trouble they do not want. Because that would open a rather interesting legal can of worms.

So, I would guess that your (and my) ZOE movies are quite safe in your library, you just won't be able to buy them anymore on GOG. What will not happen is that I will leave the ONE actually fair Digital Distribution Platform over a simple tweet that resulted in the same tired, manufactured and annoying outrage over fuck all.

In this case they aren't as the majority of the comment made by their CEO is outright libel and makes him look like a NPC with some crude chatbot function.
