As the year is reaching its end, it's the season of various tops so out of curiosity, I checked MaGog with brand new games released in 2016 (including the "in dev" ones) and was impressed that we actually had 158 releases so far.

So, if you want to point out some 2016 games which you liked and think that they deserve more exposure, you can make a Top5 (or top 10 if you have lots of time to play) with some comments. ;)

Here's the list by date of release:

You want us to make a list without you doing the honours? That's cheating. The OP must lead by example.

So you just mean actually new games? (not new to Gog games)

It's hard to say then as I haven't really played many of them..

Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander would have to top the list anyway as I really enjoyed, but as it's the only I think I've bought and played I can't genuinely list anything else...

Games I'm looking forward to getting include, Darkest Dungeon and The Banner Saga 2, also Offworld Trading Company which I have but haven't played yet.
I can't.
I mean I could by just weighing that MaGog list, but not by actually naming games that I liked from 2016.
I haven't bought/played many new stuff this year, but my top 2 would be:
The Witcher 3 - Blood and Wine - i know, not technically a game, but it's better/bigger than most games out there.

The problem is that I have only played 4 games in that list so I can't even reach a top 5 :o)

-Dying Light:
The open-world mashup between parkour/borderlands/zombies

-Stardew Valley:
The Harvest Moon-like that's too cute and chilling

-Superhot:
Minimalistic FPS based on bullet time

-Transport Fever:
Finally a decent 3D follow-up to Transport Tycoon

Still better than I did, as I have only played enough 2 of the games in the list. ;)

Titan Quest: Anniversary Edition
With Diablo 2 missing from here, this is a good alternative for an Action/RPG.

Xanadu Next
Nice mix of Diablo and Ys, albeit a bit on the grindy side and has some technical issues.

Xanadu?
01. Day of the Tentacle Remastered
02. Order of the Thorne: The King's Challenge
03. Shardlight
04. Downfall: Redux
05. The Little Acre

As you can see, I'm a huge point-and-click adventure fan.
Way too many good games this year but here's a few I enjoyed.

Firewatch
Best game I have played this year, love the story and the feeling of wildlife. Also a really good looking game, reminds me a bit of The Long Dark.

Darkest Dungeon
Story is limited but the voice acting, atmosphere and the tactical gameplay is amazing. Best played in a room with all lights turned off :)

The Witness
Best puzzle game I have played in a very long time, it's creative and really enjoy the fact that you don't get told how to do the puzzles, it's all up to you. Usually play it in short bursts when taking breaks, perfect for that.

Stardew Valley
Very different than what I usually play, so much to do and like that you are creating relationships that you don't normally see in games. Also, didn't think farming was so much fun.

Stories: The Path of Destinies
Gameplay is fairly simple but the story is very interesting and worth playing. Unfortunately the way the game is built up I don't feel there's much replayability here, soundtrack is really good though.
low rated
Stardew Valley - simply no contest, it's awesome.
Way of the Red - surprise masterpiece, made by one guy on a crappy laptop except for music. Refreshingly excellent writing, it's like talking to a friend after a 40 hour call center shift.
The Metronomicon - very fun, I'm seriously considering a dance pad. Too bad the best song isn't in the official soundtrack.
Owlboy - out of ooh-fluffy games, I'm going to pick true indie devs who don't show off their piss jugs.
1979 Revolution: Black Friday - I have to pick at least one serious game because I'm a pretentious ass, and this one has the lowest "English professors contemplating adultery" quotient.

Of the ones from the list that I've both bought and had time to play so far, my favorites (in alphabetical order) were:

Crashlands;

Firewatch;

Grim Dawn;

The Last Door 2;

Stardew Valley (possibly my Game of the Year);

Titan Quest (although it feels like cheating to count this as a new game); and

The Witness.

And for the totally controversial opinion, I actually had a fun time with No Man's Sky. YMMV.
1. NO MAN'S SKY

2. NO MANS SKY

3. No Man's Sky

4. No Mans Sky

5. no man's sky
Oh good topic, well in no order.

-Shadow Tactics Blades of The Shogun.
Game was just so fun and well done.

-Halcyon 6 Starbase Commander
Great game, love the artwork and it's still being improved on and refined.

-Crysis
So great to have such a defining game on gog and it's a great fun FPS as well.

-Ghost of a Tale
Yes still in dev. but I love the in dev. section on gog and this game has been amazing with what has been done with it.

-Titan Quest Anniversary Edition
Not only a great release to come to gog but it was released with an attractive price, bug fixes and more.
Me too top 5 2016 gog games

dying light
