kai2: It definitely seems like the older Steam sales were more interesting than the new Steam sales... and the new GOG sales are more interesting than the new Steam sales as well.

djoxyk: definitely. maybe we're spoiled by regular mini-sales during a year, or maybe our enormous backlogs plays its role in less hyped approach to sale. I believe most of us have nice backlog and can play years without buying new game. At some point one gonna stop buying and start playing. Actually if all of us will start to process our backlogs gaming industry will collapse - there's too many games and so little time for one human to play even already purchased titles.
For me there are three things going on: 1) I'm finding it hard to justify purchasing games with DRM... unless they're "dirt cheap." I'd rather buy on GOG -- pay slightly more -- and own the game. 2) Through various things like Twitch Prime I've ended up for free with DRM copies of Pillars of Eternity, For The King, and other games I now won't even look for cheap at Steam. 3) I have a massive backlog of games and books that I'm starting to worry I've collected for nothing. Gotta read and play... collect on that investment! ;)

As far as new games go... there are a few I'm excited about like Bannerlord and Greedfall, but for the most part I've grown tired of the AAA space. I'm actually having teh most fun with an old Drakensang game!

Anyway, I think that's all adding to my general sale malaise (although I'm happy to see GOG sales!)... and Steam sale malaise in particular. I once used to scour Steam sales and count the days! Now I just kinda *meh* my way to the end.

basically same goes for me. Not apparently interested in AAA games because of DRM, lootboxes and overall shallow experience. I'm into classic RPGs or Simulations, Strategies (mid 2000s games). What I really liked from new games goes from indie devs like Stardew Valley, Terraria, Book of Demons and such. Having more than 500 games in my backlog (good half just repurchased on steam/gog to avoid hassle with old CDs) and that amount of games already too much for me to play in lifetime. Dark Eye franchise is sitting in my backlog maybe till next year (that's 2 Drakensang games, 2 Blackguards + DLC, Dark Eye Chains of Satinav from Daedalic), as well as many other nice games I should play instead of checking sales :)
