Randalator: Steam can fuck right off with their nefarious gamification sales. I don't buy on Steam anyway but if I ever had, this would be the tipping point to calling it quits. Gamifying money spending is the lowest of the low.
StingingVelvet: All the game stuff is 100% optional you know.
It still preys on vulnerable people by hiding spending incentives behind layers of "innocent fun". Yes, I know I don't have to participate, but then I'm not the target for these practices, because I am aware of the inherent shittiness and categorically avoid it. It's targeted towards people who are unaware of what gamification is and does and "skinner boxes" them into spending more money than they intend to through instant gratification ("I did the spending and the pretty number increased") and false cameradery ("I can't let my team down, just X moneys and they get this boost"). It's free-to-play monetization tactics applied to a sales event.
Fuck. That.
