Nice list. I would recommend playing the original exile games(if you can get them/get them installed....exile 3 is one of the best, imo) as well if you like the avernum games. They are somewhat more difficult to master/play(exile 1 using a keyword typing talk system, and exile 2 being similar in that regard, but exile 3 is a bit better), and have more dated graphics, but they are pretty fun overall.

(Another mention is blades of exile/avernum)

Question on blood/doom 2: Why play multiple episodes at once? Doesn't that spoil/jumble up the plot progression? Or have you already played them before?

On quake 1/2: Remember to dl/add the music back in(gog had to cut them due to licensing issues, iirc). Also, there are several good/decent expansions for both.

Redneck Rampage: I'm trying to finally beat it...have gotten to the end of the first episode(furthest I ever got in other playthroughs was the hermit's home/lair) this time.

Dark Forces 2: Am replaying it and am on the end of chapter 2 atm. Definitely as fun as I remember(the cheesy cutscenes and all).

Alpha Protocol(360): Am replaying through the recruit storyline with different missions order/choices.

Dragon Age 2: Am playing for the first time(loading the save from the first game, which I finished as a dwarf thief). Good so far, and have gotten to the city/done some stuff. They cut back on quality this time around, imo, but it's still somewhat enjoyable.

Assorted hidden object games from Gamehouse/etc: Games like Cursed Fates series(am on the headless horseman one atm) and the like.

I have already played the first three Exile but the problem is that I have to emulate them via DOSbox to be able to play there and that it causes lags every time so not really pleasant, I hope for an open source of the first trilogy of the Exile.

So I find the Avernum series (2001 and up) much more pleasant and balanced than the latest recent remakes, because in the latter the characters are far too small and therefore it hinders the readability of the game, in addition to the bosses which are a real pain to kill.

For Blades of Avernum yes I know and I really appreciated it, I even started my own translation, because that's the problem with Spiderweb: no other translation available.

To answer your question, it's precisely that I have difficulty motivating myself on one and the same episode so I vary the pleasures.

For Doom 2 I had already finished it but in very easy, so I try in Ultra Violence for the challenge, for Tnt I never finished it, and finally for Plutonia I had only finished it in very easy, but I admit that Plutonia is rather tending to finish.

For Quake 1 & 2, don't worry, it's already been done ;)

I even installed mods to make these two cult games even more beautiful. ^^

In Redneck, I had reached the Level 3 Junkyard, I hadn't managed to finish the first episode.

For Dark Forces 2, I reached Level 3: The Return Home to Sulon.

Answering each point in turn(also a bit of head's up, you can click reply next to a post to make a proper reply and it'll notify me/others you reply to that they got a reply and also makes kit more likely those you reply to will find them & read them ;) ) -

1. Aren't Exile 3/Blade of Exile installable/playable without dosbox? Afaik they should be.

2. I myself couldn't play game episodes out of order(with some exceptions), as(to me) some games would be spoiled by finding out some plot points too early/out of order.

3. If I may ask: What are you r favorite Q 1/2 levels/episodes/etc? I loved nearly all of Q2(although certain bits stand out more to me), and as for Q1: One favorite part(though short) is the first boss.....lava dude and shocky poles to kill him....good times.

4. I love Resident Evil immensely(though In only finished the main games of the second game and fourth game, and also played good chunks of 3/1/0/Veronica/the ps2 one on the boat/etc). The series hits alot of the right "buttons" for me...survival horror/zombies/good music and characters/funny & good cutscenes/etc.

5. In Redneck Rampage: I never managed to finish it. I LOVE it, but every time I try to complete it something happens(other irl things take my time, pc breaks down, bugs in the game make it hard to progress, etc). I finished as far as the hermit's lair(second episode iirc) before a bug prevented me from passing a door needed to be passed to finish the level. I couldn't find a cheat/way to get pas it at the time(and be able to finish the rest of the level normally without bypassing it) so I haven't ever finished it. Hopefully that will change this time(with RedneckGDX port).

6. In DF 2: I finished a light side playthrough of the game(not dark side yet) and loved it. I also played most of the expansion(it has a great opening few levels/plot setup imo).

That was one helluva long prologue. Around 40 bandits, in a game where one shot can take down anyone? Managed to get full team and some rifles, some of them rather ancient (muskets, WW1/WW2 stuff). All that need really careful reading and exploring whole map.

Wizards&Warriors
Tried going solo and beside rough start - it's pretty cool! Multiclassing have so much potentian it's incredible.

1. No, unfortunately, the Exile trilogy being 16-bit applications they will refuse to run on modern 64-bit operating systems.

Only on old 32-bit systems such as Vista or Seven can the game be started.

For Blades of Exile which is an exception it will run without problems on any system because the sources have been released and the fans have created a great program.

2. I can understand but personally, it doesn't bother me. :)

3. For Quake 1 in the basic game, I don't have a favorite passage but in the addon
Mission Pack 1 - Scourge of Armagon, I like the map "The Pumping Station", after that I must say that I didn't really put myself on this addon, I'm still walking the corridors of the other episodes in Quake 1. ;)

For the first boss yes it is indeed very nice to kill but I don't remember at all the other bosses.

I had almost managed to finish the game but with one or two maps at the end, I couldn't pass a pass with any kind of plants that would make your life miserable, so I did the stupid thing of using a cheat code and that disgusted me... in short, I'm doing the game again in a 'normal' way.

For Quake1 and 2, same thing no favorite passage since I love the whole game:) if you want to rediscover the game I recommend the patch/mod Quake 2 XP. ;)

4. Ha, Resident Evil I played almost all the games and almost all the remakes,
I loved the 4 and 2, the 2 being the only episode of the whole series that I managed to finish on Ps1 with Leon.

on the 3rd I've never played it before, I can't give an opinion.

my progress:

RE1, I have done the game several times and each time there is always something that rots life, either the snake kills me, or another time it is the second boss the huge plant with the pieces of the ceiling falling that finishes me off or when I come back a second time in the manor house the new enemies kill me....

RE 4, I'm still at the beginning of the game after killing the creature in the lake, and met for the first time the bearded leader, there I have to do a big tour of the map to reach my objective, in fact I can't give you more details sorry because I uninstall the game.

I also have the remakes of Re1, and RE2, I'll have to work on it.

5. Yes RedneckGDX is quite nice to use, we finally have a smooth game with a great resolution, after personally I have always found that Redneck is one of the hardest fps with Shadow Warrior (1997).

Speaking of SW, it is true that the port source is no longer updated, I have the'Redux' version of SW but with the vertical sync which is messed up plus the mouse lag, the game is anything but fun to play, but at least we have the music in CD quality, that's already good. xd

6. Congratulations, the game is pretty tough. ;)

For the other Spiderweb games,

Avadon I have never really managed to enjoy the game, between the story which is far from being exciting and just the beginning where you have to find three or four guys in a map that is quite labyrinthine, my rather discouraged.

For Genforge 1 I loved the game, its scary side and the story of being on an island free of places you can visit without having a linear thing. (Isn't that right, Avadon?)

I had come quite far into a kind of desert, but well I had done the stupid thing of investing badly in my character's statistics and so I never managed to finish the game.

I had even started a full translation of the first two cards of the game, but well in front of the titanic task (at least more than thirty different places) I quickly gave up.

The other Genforges, I never really hooked into the main frames of the games.

1. That sucks. :\

Well, I guess one could technically run them also in a VM(with older windows) or via dosbox with windows 3.1 running within it.

3. I remember also the end boss of Q1 being super easy to kill(SPOILER you telefrag it basically).

As for cheating: I do it all the time to get to areas you can only get to b y cheating or to access areas the devs didn't want anyone to see(cut content/etc).

4. RE3 is good in that there is a mini boss that appears every so often(nemesis) and you can do various things/choices each time it appears(and other choices) which affect game ending.

RE4 is also good in finding all the secrets(like when meeting the village leader in his house/the 1st time you can renenter that room and see a secret cutscene), doing all the shooting minigames, etc.

RE2 is good to play one way(leon then ashley) then playing it the other way to see changes(ashley then leon).

There's also a ps2 RE game set on a boat that uses a unique aiming system which is fun to play(basically it's similar to older cabinet arcade games with light guns).

5. Shadow Warrior...another classic. Good times.

6. To be fair I beat the game without cheating but do cheat on some replays to save time and not get too frustrated(like with the falling ship level on light side path).

On geneforge 1: The game is actually pretty easy if you don't try to beat all areas. Some areas/paths are better suited to some builds than to others(iirc the desert is a higher level fighter based path). Elsewise it's pretty fun with all the stuff to try(like the factions and how they see you if you join one of them or stay unaffiliated.).

Tangledeep: Have a save on 20F.

Bard's Tale Trilogy remaster: One save is in BT2 with all 7 segments (I have beaten it to check how the transfer program works, and I found an exploit with the Brilhasti boost in *this* version, which is different from the ones in classic versions), an older save in BT3 that has reached Malefia (and where I managed to get a Staff of Gods)

SaGa Frontier 2 (currently playing): Have just beaten Tycoon Wil, saved in Vogelang (need to clean out inventory (too many Blue Water drops in Tycoon Wil; I recommend making space in your inventory and don't be afraid to get rid of your Blue Waters, as you won't need them either here or in Beyond Grand Valley until after the part where you'll likely receive too many Blue Water drops); also had Cordelia learn Spear Arts that I was missing), have already played At the Mines 2, so Anima Faith Fiasco is the next Wil scenario. On the Gustave side, I have played through Construction of Hahn Nova (3 blacksmith districts to get powerful steel weapons much later), and The Firebrand Tragedy is next. Johan the Assassin is open, and I plan on playing that event next, as it gives you a useful Hybrid Art that can't be learned any other way. I remember getting at least Exile 1 to run in a 32-bit Linux virtual machine via WINE; this may be one way to play that game. (Not sure if it works with the rest of the trilogy.)

Sometimes, for older Windows games you may have better luck running the game under WINE than under modern Windows.

That is a really good advice. Also the chance to try Linux on a separate partition for people who haven't done so...
Of course with MS integrating Linux in Windows we might soon be running game in WINE in Linux in Windows...

I have also already tried to install and run a virtual system but unfortunately under Windows 10, all I get is an error message when launching the system that is hosted and therefore it refuses to launch.

I would like to point out that I have already tried with two virtualization systems in vain.

If you are running Hyper-V (which is found on non-Home versions of Windows 10), it may be conflicting with other VM software; if this is the case, you have two options:
1. Disable Hyper-V. Or:
2. Use Hyper-V as your VM system to run Linux.

In Avernum I, I freed the prisoners in the fort and I am now in Slith territory where I have to get my hands on a volume, I am having fun freeing the slaves from the different slave camps in this region.

For the fun and exploration side I tried to comabttre the giants, but well they are too hard for the moment.
