I love that there is a one stop place for archived games that I can come to and relive some of my favorites from yesteryear.

But unless a sale comes by, I just won't buy these games again. $10 for Star Wars games like X-Wing, TIE Fighter?

You guys know better if you're making the sales or not, but seriously, if they were $3 each I'd have already bought three of these games by now.

The prices are set by the publishers, not GOG.

Serious question (I'm not trying to sound insulting, I'm legitimately curious), are you new to buying digital games or something? That's how it always works. If you can't afford the game, you wait for a sale. If money's no object to you and/or you want to support the developers, you buy at full price. This is kind of standard procedure. There's always a big sale once per season with minor ones in between. I've literally never bought a game at full price (but then, I'm a cheapskate). The cheapest base price for games here are at least $6, $3 sounds, quite frankly, ridiculous if not on sale. And before you hit me with the "But they're so old!" argument, most of the games here are actually pretty darn cheap compared to their original prices.

Collector's CD Rom is the superior vision of those games. How did Steam not think to include them but GOG did?

Might want to see a doctor for that cough. Some nasty bugs bouncing around the west coast this winter.

But yeah, some people have money to burn or want to support developers for games they loved back when.

The rest of us wait for free games/sales/bundles/GAs and buy on a budget.

I always find it interesting how many posts I see from people that supposedly love these classic games and really would like to have them but think 10 bucks is too much money. Seriously, these days 10 bucks doesn't go very far and most of these old games will provide far more than 10 bucks worth of entertainment. But if that's still too steep, then wait for a sale. Hell, they happen multiple times a year.

I'm a collector of games too. It's about pricepoint though. There's a GLUT of games today and I can be very selective on what I buy. Some of these classics I wouldn't mind having a copy for replaying in the future, but not for the prices these are normally at. And waiting for sales is tedious work.

Some games I'd agree are overpriced, like $10 DOSBox or ScummVM titles, like Toonstruck, or some $6 DOS titles that ought to be a collection for $10 like Laura Bow. (all imo of course) DOS Disney platformers for $10/apiece is crazy to me.

In the case of old games, it appears GOG has some say since they blazed a trail in selling old games - they aim for $6 or $10 price points. However the final price is ultimately up the publishers. Case in point above, DOS Disney platformers - I suspect GOG knew they wouldn't sell as well at $10 than at $6, but Disney probably wanted otherwise because the platformers used Disney IP. $$$

On the other hand, because of inflation in real life, GOG may be more okay with higher prices and games being split up instead of in collections.

My advice: Stop by at least once a week to see what is on sale. Have some patience.

If you're too impatient to wait for a sale, there being a major one every season and plenty of various weekly sales, then I'm really not sure what to tell you. It's either you learn to be patient or bite the bullet and pay full price. That's just how it works with buying games (or anything else, really). In any case, as others have pointed out, you'll have to blame the publisher, not the store. I'm really curious what kind of games you're normally buying if you think $10 is too expensive, though. Mind you, I rarely spend over $5 or so on a game myself, but then, I'm not a collector, usually broke, and the type of person who's willing to wait upwards of a year to play the game he wants that just released in the hopes that it hits a bundle in the future. You sound like none of these.

People seem to forget that those $10 not only have to cover the publisher's license fees and make a little profit for GOG too, but they also have to pay for all the preliminary effort including negotiations and getting them to run reliably on modern machines (which in case of X-Wing and TIE Fighter wasn't quite easy AFAIK). And of course also for the games' share of ongoing support.

$10 is too much... That's like saying the price of a meal in a restaurant shouldn't be more than that of the ingredients... forgetting about the cook, the waiter, the cleaning, rent, energy...

I would disagree with you on that point. If you put things on your wishlist, even speculative things you would only buy at steep discount, GOG will email you when they are on sale.

That function even seems to reliably function now. Unless you're talking about wishlisting 500 games there's really not much effort to it at all, imo.

p.s. Though I would say that by and large I find the joy of window shopping major sales to be more entertaining than work, so perhaps we just have a different POV. I agree shopping every mid-week and weekend sale would be a bit more lukewarm.

Patience has great benefits!

Is that fact or hearsay? Why,because that's a well known copout used by a LOT of companies worldwide and THAT is a FACT,like it or lump it.And ofcourse I expect ignorance as per usual, carry on I had my say.

Yeah, I have my beef about that too - being too short.

Hey, I'm just saying: if GoG wants to do more business with me, they're going to have to either have more sales or lower their prices.

They generally have discounts every week for a certain group of titles. One week I might be something like "Rayman Series 75% Off", and considering how the three original Rayman games cost aound $7 AUD each, the reduction in price is usually quite low, somewhere between 2-3 dollars each.

Every single title I've purchased through GOG has been purchased with a price drop due to weekly sales. I never buy anything over $5. Paitently waiting for weekly/seasonal sales helps me do so with ease.

Prices will probably change over time, but that will most likely take months/years.

Check the main store page reguarly. Right now there is a -85% sale for various war games. Next week it will change to something else "Telltale Series". "Horror Games", "Ubisoft Titles" etc. Be patient! :D
