That's the spirit! :)

Maxvorstadt: What the heck is GWENT?
avatar
valiant243: Just a F2P card game with in-game purchases. You can play online or off. Internet connection is only required to download the single player campaign and purchase items if you don't want to play the competitive mode.
avatar
haydenaurion: Ah, nevermind then.
avatar
valiant243: It's free and there's a single player adventure mode, so I don't see any downsides to trying it out.
Really i'm just not interested in the card game genre, I went through my Magic: The Gathering phase in the 90's. :P

All right, it won't be going anywhere if you do change your mind in the future. ;)

Though if gog ever got the rights to release the old Magic: The Gathering pc games here I would be tempted to try those out. Never got to play those.
GWENT: THE WITCHER CARD GAME || Announcement Trailer (30s.) released today.

Oh my god, what happened to Triss' face? That's some ugly artwork right there. And why is that guy wearing moder day glasses and has some fast-food soda cup? Whyst is the other guy wearing a normal shirt and some werewolf mask? I'm sorry, but I really don't get the mood they're going for with this. I thought this was taken from the Witcher?

Anyway, as usual with games like that, it will require way more time to be any good and competative with it then I'll be willing to spend on it. It's the nature of collectible card games. With a physical edition I'm happy to just play it with my friends- then we're all on even ground. But playing online means going up against people who spend an untold amount of time mastering it and heaven help you if quit playing for a few months- once you come back everything you knew and all your decks are hopelessly out of date and you're back to square one.

I remember playing one of those over a decade ago and it wasn't all that good. The one I played wasn't turn-based and had some real-time elements to it but it harms the game more than anything. MtG always have problems with their PC games adaptions, granted that I didn't play some of the newer ones. Kind of lost interest, I still have cards and decks from Ice Age and earlier Editions lying around...

Oh well.
It has single player adventure mode if you don't want to go online. You only need internet connection to download the single player campaign and if you purchase items, else it's free to play.

This is the full announcement trailer. Maybe you'll feel better (or worse) after watching it?

Are you sure? The FAQ you linked to reads:
"Can I play GWENT in single player mode?
In a nutshell: yes, but not during the upcoming Beta.".

Correct, Beta is only to test the online elements of the game as of now. If you read further down the FAQ, you should come across the rest of the information.
Poor flippin' infantries, onward !
Edit: NVM I might not be excited to play it now...
