Gersen: As mentioned it's pretty old news, while it's a pretty weird policy, and IIRC it was only for "new" version of the games (e.g. the PS4 version of a game previously released on PSP), they are not being patched out of already released games. I don't know how it is in game industry, but as a developper it something quite common, usually the "about" section only contains the current devs and not all those who ever worked on the program, that is when they are listed at all.
I understand websites.

But why game credits list?

Thats just asinine.
They're not the only ones. Konami does it too.

Because this way you get to overwork your employees until the end, if they can't keep up they're out. It's good old extortion. Not asinine at all. Crunch till the end or leave but forget being credited for your work. It makes perfectly sense if there is no law to forbid this practice.
News from one year ago! Unless there's been some new developments, why bring it up now?

EDIT: And reading through the post more carefully, I can see that it's already been pointed out.

babark: This is dispicable stuff...from 8 months ago.

What was the impetus to bring it up now?

I guess because they have neither corrected that shitty behavior nor apologized for it and their equally disgusting explanation.

But considering that, we shouldn't be surprised to see threads announcing that Konami have removed Kojima from the Metal Gear's credits. That also counts!

As did the OP :)

Such petty behavior like that should not be normalized or accepted just because it is practiced for who knows how long (probably since the dawn of digital distribution; before it would have been too much of a hassle). That Konami behaves like a bunch of dishonorable dicks is pretty much common knowledge by know. With the way Rockstar presents itself it does not really surprise me but I did not knew that either; similar with Xseed.
Do you want easter eggs? Cause that's how you get easter eggs!

My theory:

Ancient-Red-Dragon: at least XSEED is way better than NISA. For example, XSEED doesn't censor the crap of out their games in order to appease ResetEra-type people, whereas NISA does. XSEED tends not to censor anything, which is as it should be.
In 1979, such behaviour gifted us Activision.

“I definitely think that publishers have a vested interest in controlling how games are credited,” Typhoon Studios founder Alex Hutchinson, a veteran Ubisoft and EA game director, told VGC. “Whenever someone becomes known, they become potentially more expensive, and worse, they become someone who could wrest some of the control over a game or franchise away from the publisher.

“Some gamers don’t realise how important this issue is for us professionally,” she said. “Many seem to think it’s about bruised egos or something. No – like film and TV – it’s about getting hired for the next job and not looking like a liar on your CV.
