I finally find a copy of the PC version... and its the older 4 CD release with the “Delete all configuration and saved games files” issue in the installer. Unfortunately, renaming the setup file hasn't worked for me. Any suggestions* before I try to dig up an old XP computer?

*other than inventing a time machine just to buy it on GOG

You could try installing it on an XP virtual machine and copying the files to your main pc.
Here is a solution on this page:

Since you have already paid for it and it's not available here anymore.
So I will suggest you to "borrow" gog installer as it must have fixed all the issues.
I just wish that some day XIII will be again on GOG and I would be able to add it in my library.

Piracy really would be a last ditch effort though. :l
I'm glad I bought it before it was removed from GOG.

I will certainly look into that option.

Did you follow the instructions exactly? Did you try it a few times. The reason I ask is that I did this a week or two back on my CD versions, and the first few times it didn't work, but after I exactly followed the instructions a couple of times, then it did go through ok.
You could give Installshieldwrapper a shot, it worked for a couple of games I couldn't install otherwise on Windows 7.
Be sure to remove it when you don't need it though, it gave me some install problems with newer games.

This is how I installed my discs to Win 7 64.

Haven't had an issue installing and it's been working flawlessly.
This game was bundled with some graphics cards that we got dozens of at work. Most of them went to trash :(

And within is a step missed on PCGamingWiki. ME compatibility, not XP. It seems to have finally installed on 8.1.
