Good call, I forgot about it. I really liked the first one, the second one frustrated me near the end, but I can't remember what it was now.

Awesome! Time to replay it so I can finally finish it. The Suffering was also re-released at the same time, they (Area 51 and The Suffering) were made freeware thanks to an agreement with the Air Force.

Anyway, yeah Area 51 isn't GREAT but it's definitely worth your time (if only for the sharks with head mounted lasers). Maybe the game's biggest flaw is that David Duchovny sounds more sleepy than usual and he does a fair bit of talking in the game.

I never played it, but I think that XIII also had some kind of story involving conspiracies... I also just learned that, much like Area 51, it included voice work performed by David Duchovny. Who knew!

Maybe one day GOG will see the return of XIII? I'd really like to try it out!

I actually own that, played it way back when. I don't remember a single thing about it though, other than the cell-shaded graphics and the fact it was quite an ok FPS. I think it was supposed to have sequels that were enver made, which kind of fucked the story.

Two more. Well, possibly. First is Blade Runner. Obviously, it's a little far fetched, but still- investigation, sci-fi, neo-noir... I might be reaching, but I think it's close enough.

The other is Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars. At least I think it fits, I have not played it, but it sounds about right- investigation, conspiracies... am I right?

Investigation with occult/scifi/conspiracy elements? If you're not against pixels, I think many of the adventure games from wadget eye may fit the bill. Especially Gemini rue, Technobabylon and Resonance (they're scify, but if you're willing to include Blade runner, they fit)

I also remember "the moment of silence" felt pretty xfilesish when I played it, but it was a long time ago, so I can't say much about it I played the first. Investigation with a very creepy atmosphere and some strange stuff, but not really supernatural. Might fit the most "mundane" parts of x-files.

Another one if you're into gaming archeology : Bureau 13 was pretty much "X-Files' men in black - the game". Old stuff, though (1995), and I remember it was buggy as hell.

Blackwell. It has a very dry and practical approach to the supernatural, which kinda reminds me of X-files. It also has a female protagonist who are the more rational and sceptical type, and a male protagonist with a past who takes the supernatural stuff for granted.

I've added the Blackwell series to the list in the first post, though that's rather for the sake of make it an honest list thn for my own use- Wadget's games are not for me. I didn't like Gemini rue, I didn't much like Primordia, so I won't be trying again. Now, I'm not saying those are bad games, but for many reasons I personally was not having much fun with them.

I was going to suggest Cryostasis, but I guess GOG has pulled it from the catalogue.

If you're going to consider the Broken Sword games, the Gabriel Knight series is also a point and click adventure game about supernatural investigations.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is a first person adventure game about a detective investigating a mysterious town, with the usual lovecraftian tropes. I haven't gone very far into the game, I hear it falls apart later on, but what I played I really enjoyed.

Pathologic, it's another first person adventure game, where you try to save a town from a plague. It has that subtle wrongness about it, like some impossible architecture that all the locals address as if it was perfectly normal, as well as strange masked creatures guiding your journey. There's some combat and survival elements, but it seems more focused on exploring the town and talking to its denizens.

The Black Watchmen. This is a permanent ARG, so instead of controlling a character in the game you play as yourself and interact with websites and other people in real life to try and solve its mysteries.

Outlast is SO DUMB

It's basically hide from everything only to Burn the preist dude to death in the end with all those scary characters that chased you oh and you get fingers RIPPED off your body somewhere in the game

basically it's a Hide from bigger kids in Lockers and underneath beds sim!

Outlast is sweet. Playing it right now. Unfortunately, I bought it just before the Humble, but I did get it on a good sale. Creepy as hell game. I only play it at night.

I guess you've already made up your mind, but the Blackwell series is by a different author than Gemini Rue or Primordia, the writing is more engaging and the puzzles are generally less obscure. I believe quite a few would consider it the best Wadjet Eye Games series. Then again, if you didn't like the graphics / resolution, the oldschool gameplay, the voiceovers or the music in Gemini Rue and Primordia, then you won't like Blackwell either.
