I would honestly just boil it down to what games (exclusives, not games that are on more than one platform like Shadow of Mordor and Dying Light) interest you the most. Most other stuff mentioned doesn't really matter that much in the end.

Shadowstalker16: Dark Souls 3 (PC probable)
It's already confirmed for PC.

Elmofongo: But some games require accounts on PC...like Ubisoft games :P
avatar
rtcvb32: Thankfully 99% of those games i'll happily shun and never touch... Watch Dogs, AssCreed 2 and on, Diablo 3, Sim City, etc...
Diablo 3 is not that bad of a game I say thats the only game where I would just suck it up and play it on PC.

AssCreed 2 is the best game in the whole series.

WatchDogs on PC has the benefit of restoring the E3 Graphics.

Even without the Always Online DRM that game still is weak sauce because of the lacking features.

Shadowstalker16: Looks like a bad time to get a console considering the exclusives announced for the future are largely.......absent. PS4 will get Shenmue 3 if it ever comes out but PC may so as well.
---------PS4----------
-Shenmue 3
-Bloodborne
-Dark Souls 3 (PC probable)
-The Last Guardian
-Uncharted 4
-Destiny
-Infamous : Second Son
--------XBone--------
-Ryse : Son of Rome (PC available)
-Halo : MCC
-Dark Souls 3
-GoW
-Earlier access to Rise of the Tomb Raider
-Destiny

The PS4 is said to be more powerful because it has GDDR5 video memory instead of the GDDR3 of the Xbone. Both GPUs are about as strong as an AMD HD7770 but faster VRAM helps only if the devs don't cripple it and use lower requiring graphics for both so both games look similar.
Killer Instinct man HOW COULD YOU NOT MENTION IT!!!

Look at the exclusive franchises on each and decide based on the games and which console your friends went for.
I was set on getting a PS4 but now I have changed to Xbox One simply because I enjoy the games more and some of my friends have migrated over to it, I'm just waiting on a price drop as I don't think either console is worth the current price.

I think people take too much stock in the hardware side of things when it's not the most important thing, especially not if you have a half decent gaming pc.
Did Microsoft suggest that at least for some games, if you buy the XBone version, you'd acquire also the PC (MS Store in Windows 10) version of the game? So you'd have the game on two platforms then.

I recall reading about that, but no idea to which XBone games it'd apply to (all that have both a XBone and PC/Windows 10 version? Only some Microsoft-published titles? Only some casual indie games, not AAA titles?).

Other than that, I'd probably get PS4 myself, as I presume it had and will have more (Japanese) games which are quite different from PC. At this point I am not buying a console though, I already have too many games to play for a few lifetimes.

Giving in only fuels their greed that they can get away with bad products. I won't ever play Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2 at this rate.

As for Assassin's Creed, I was referring to any and all of them that aren't DRM-free, which is 2 and on... If/when they are made DRM-free I might actually buy them. Course I lost interest in them on the console after beating the second game and the third game (brotherhood) quickly lost any and all interest as it wasn't the time period or character I wanted to play as/with.

Reminds me... Wasn't it Halo 2 which they put on PC which was only for Vista to help push their OS? Somehow this feels too similar...

Yes, of course their idea there would be to push both XBone and Windows Store gaming. I guess it would still be great for people who have a XBone, and wouldn't mind having the same game also on their PC (even if it requires Windows 10 and Windows Store).

But as said, I don't know/recall the details, just read about it, probably linked in this forum anyway...
I picked up an Xbox One, mostly because I wanted to play Halo: TMCC but I think now I'm leaning more towards the Xbox Live.

I acknowledge that my case may be unique, but scouting the internet there seems to be a lot of people that have experienced similar challenges when it comes to game accounts when purchasing a PS3/vita. These are some things you may want to consider when buying a PS4:

1. Changing your ID/Gamertag on PSN for any reason, is impossible. They probably used our PSN IDs as our unique identifier in the data table and they keep dragging their feet as opposed of making a new data table which may be expensive, but will be even more so the more PSN grows.

edit: There actually is a way to promote a sub account to a master account. Thanks to DreadMoth for the correction

2. [i]There is currently no way to promote Sub-to-master accounts. That means if you create an account for your kid at age 12, 5 or 6 years later they will not be able to play mature games on that account. They may either create a new account and loose all their progress/trophies and have to start from scratch. For this you can either lie about your age,if you are not 17 or older, which may be an issue later on if you need to retrieve your account or enter your payment options.]There is currently no way to promote Sub-to-master accounts. 3. While PSN and Xbox Live both suffer from downtime, Xbox live is usually more reliable.

4. Say if you move permanently or temporarily overseas, you cannot transfer your account from say US to the UK. If you move permanently, you will probably no longer be able to purchase games from the PSN store without a viable card. For the US it is not an issue, but for certain countries like Malaysia it may be more difficult to get top up cards which can be used for purchase.

I mention all of this because Xbox does allow you to change your name, albeit at a fee (free the first time), move your account wherever Xbox live has service, and the overall network is a hell of a lot better than PSN, which despite charging for the service now, hasn't really improved since the PS3 days in my opinion.

With that said, the biggest weakness the Xbox has is its lack of exclusives. PS4 not only has more exclusives, but more interesting ones in my opinion. Nevertheless that is something you have to decide on your own.

7. Yes, the PS4 does have a significant advantage graphically over the Xbox One. Nevertheless, I don't think that advantage is significant enough to warrant choosing one console over another because you can run a game natively at 900p vs 1080p. You may feel free to disagree.

8. Earlier in this generation, sometimes games did suffer a performance penalty in terms of FPS because of the Xbox One's lack of power compared to the PS4. This is a case where I would recommend getting a PS4 over a XOne, or vice versa. Nevertheless that doesn't quite seem to be the case anymore, although the Xbox continues to struggle with resolution. Although to be fair, so does the PS4. Native 1080/60 fps are not as frequent as you would hope.

9. In Xbox's favor, backward compatibility through emulation will be available soon. The catch is that because of licensing issues, publishers have to agree to let their games appear in the program. It's not as easy as just putting your copy of the game in the drive. Some games may perform significantly poorer than what they did in the Xbox, however. You can look at some examples of Mass Effect running on Xbox One through emulation vs Xbox 360 native on DigitalFoundrys youtube channel.

So it seems like a cliche but both platforms have their advantages and disadvantages. One disadvantage for both is that you pay for online, which shouldn't be the case. If PS4 had Xbox Live's ease of use in terms of changing your ID/gamertag, sub-to-master promotion, and general reliability, I would say get the PS4. Likewise if the Xbox had PS4's exclusives, I'd say get the Xbox one, as it stands, its a little more complicated than that. Hardware wise, PS4 is a good console but it has a lot of things that prevent it from being a great platform in my opinion. Xbox Live is unmatched as far as consoles go but Xbox One doesn't have a much exclusive games to entice a lot of people, plus Microsoft's support and push for the console outside or the US is lackluster.

Of course you can ignore half of my PSN criticisms if you only buy physical games. That is my .02 cents, take it as you will.

Uh Starcraft 2 can be played offline. (Single Player at least)

I don't know why people keep saying that. Ever since Diablo 3 everyone is lumping Starcraft 2 in that same always online thing.

Assuming of course it's registered/activated online. I hate online activation. A while back i considered buying SC2 discs used, but quickly found the key is locked to a account i wouldn't own. I enjoy installing things not requiring internet at all, this breaks that, worse if it looks at your hardware and then decides it's a different system and you have to re-register because you swapped out a video card. No thank you...

Besides... the graphical look of 3d models look ugly vs the sprites of SC1.

Also if everything they've put out recently requires always-online (D3, Hearthstone, WoW, heros of the storm, overwatch) it's easy to just assume everything is always-online, much like Ubisoft's games and most everything put out by EA recently as well.

Last Guardian is only PS4 at the moment, the only game that is convincing me to do these next gen consoles really. I would probably go for that for the Japanese games you couldn't get on Xbox.

If your more of a normal shooter type gamer Xbox would be preferable, american / european games seem to work and look a bit better on my Xbox360 compared to PS3.

Graduated an account on my PS3 a while back.

I'd go PS4. I know it might seem a little petty to avoid the Xbone even after it ditched the Orwellian shit, but I'd still rather support the company that never thought that was alright in the first place.

But really, I'd just go for the one that has enough exclusives you want to justify the entry price. If that's neither then don't get one right now and benefit from any price reductions (on both the games and the console) in the meantime.
X or PS4?
Easy. Just look at the games (available and announced) and make your choice.
Don't bother with any technical details...both are already outdated.
Maybe later (IF they do it!!) with the new xbox app you can stream your pc games and play them on the big screen...but than you could do the same with steam.
Hi! I"m a playstation fan who just got an xbone instead of a PS4 and here is why:

I'm a huge bethesda fan. HUGE. xbone is their lead for game development. So, less buggy glitchy with Fallout 4, and any other elder scrolls to come out.

Further, xbone is getting windows 10, so YOU CAN MOD. WOO-HOO! I'm modding the crap out of fallout 4.

Honestly, the games run smoothly and look amazing (witcher 3). Yes PS4 has better graphics blah blah, but unless you have them side-by-side and are nit-picky, you can't really tell.

The controller for xbone is MUCH better. I hated my 360 controller. It was huge and clunky. I still don't like how the sticks work when pressing them down for running, but what can you do?

Xbox gold has WAY better games for the xbone than PS has for the PS4. Way better. I still have my PS3 PSplus, so i see the games, and rarely have I been impressed. Most of them have been Indie games.

What I don't like:
I still hate the UI for xbox. It's way too cluttered and big. streamlining would be nice.

Everything needs to be downloaded. EVERYTHING. I don't even know why I buy discs, most of the games needed downloaded or constantly need updated. However, I am in the middle of nowhere and have very slow internet.

I think the selection of exclusive games right now are better for PS4. With Tomb Raider coming out next year, my opinion will change. I also don't play halo, and do play destiny, so yeah.

I think the most important thing to look at is what exclusives you like the best. I love bethesda and can't wait for the new Tomb Raider, so I changed primary console to xbox. Plus, I like the idea of modding. Eventually I will own a PS4, but right now, xbox fulfills my gaming needs best.
PS4. In about 2 more years when it actually has some games for it.
