I know there are a lot of other space junkies on here with me that absolutely loved X3. It really is a hidden gem that isn't that well known. If you are any sort of space flight fan, with or without a joystick, then you need to check out the X series.

Anyway, on to the point of this post. I was shocked to see that X4 isn't on the wishlist yet! We MUST get this on GoG! It really looks fantastic and it's one of the very few space games that aren't dedicated or heavily multiplayer. Please check out the link in the wishlist narrative and spend a few minutes to check it out, it's very promising and a lot of the features are already on in-game preview videos. If you like what you see, please vote in the community wishlist page!

BTW - Just imagine the Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, and Battlestar Galactica mod page for X4 when they start to develop them!!

I think it has a fair chance of getting here eventually, though I don't think it will happen at release.
I hope they learned the lessons from the last X entry which had some significant problems starting out. Most of these have been remidied by their usual on-point patching and support, but I still won't buy it since it doesn't allow me to switch to another ship which used to be the driving force behind playing the games in the first place in older X entries. I was always working towards the next ship.

I also hope that they will bring back cockpits. Last time we got those was in X2 and they make a huge difference to me. Makes you really feel like you are part of the game world, like you are sitting in the seat. There is a detachment if the camera is just plopped onto the front of the ship without any cockpit. Something like that would be particularly potent with VR. I am not on board of the VR train yet, but I assume that when X4 comes out the hardware might be a little more affordable.

Swampland:
Ability to fly different ships has been added.
Cockpits have been added.
X4? But I thought the X Window System was already up to X11 and retiring.
Well if I never get to experience Star Citizen, this might an acceptable alternative.

They learned and said specifically this is what Rebirth should have been. It's a direct sequel to X3, so it will have at least all of the features from X3 from what I read.

Never played any of the X games. If I wanted to start, which game would you reccommend?

X3 Albion Prelude. It has the most convenience features. And you can even mod in the Terran Conflict campaign.
X Rebirth also isn't that bad as people said when it was released, but it's different in many ways from the older games.
Aaaand here we go again. Searching GOG's games will turn up nothing when writing Albion Prelude. It is sold together with the base game, Terran Conflict, in a packet called X3: Terran War Pack.
I remember I loved having a capital ship in X2; was fun to play the storyline with it which was completely not intended :P

To bad most of spaces secrets where already uncovered at that point also ppl started hating me because my autopilot killed them (they did not evade enough to evade my ships autoroute).

But! I was prepared and thrilled for the big expansion pack. :)

Which never came. :(

Than it kind of lost me...

Will that one has procedural generated space in some form and how long till one stands on a bridge? I do not like small fighter type ships really anymore. Nice "shuttlecrafts" but otherwise... meh, flying coffins.

I don't know so much details as I only looked a bit on Egosoft's website so do not know the answers to your questions.

Funny how different people are; I live in my fast M5 in any of the X3 games, just hopping over to something bigger for fights where an M5 does not cut it.

In time we will know.

I guess I'm more the Picard type than the Skywalker type ;)

Although the Battleship did had a hanger for one M5. Considering that one of the final X2 missions surprisingly requires to fly into another ship I was extremely glad I had a good one ready. God I must have made a dumb face when the NPCs told me to fly into the other ship. :D

Since the topic's here, and the gate has been opened, i my as well ask here. My computer is slow, to the point i'm worried it might not even handle X1. So, on that note, anything i should know before beginning X1? This "skywalker vs Picard" comparison leads me to believe there might be some parkan like details where I walk, otherwise it would be a "picard vs blair" comparison, no? Or am i looking at this the wrong way?

Dude, its 8oclock here. One blows up shit in a fighter the other counts asteroids from the bridge of a gigantic space ship.
