So apparently Duke Nukem is abandoning ship. Why? And most importantly, will we who bought his games be unaffected by this? Or will we lose our games?

Gearbox owns the license now. GOG had an agreement with 3D Realms. Unless GOG makes a new agreement with Gearbox, Duke goes away.
EDIT - didn't see the library question, others covered it.

Official answer:
The games will be removed from sale soon thereafter, but they will not disappear from your shelf if you're an owner.
Fuck you Gearbox...
They're having legal issues, I think GOG hasn't renewed the license, but from what I've heard, they're working on getting it back. As far as your games, no worries, you get to keep them. Pretty sure the GOG staff wouldn't be so cruel as to open up a sale on them, let you buy them, then remove access to them after you spent your money on all of it.

No. It's the same as with all the other games that have been removed from sale. If you bought them, they'll stay in your account forever.

Why? This is a normal part of business for GOG. Rights change hands all the time, GOG negotiates new deals all the time. They are already working on a new deal as we speak and odds are, Duke will be back in a few months.

Sure. But Gearbox sucks at making games. Just look at DNF, Colonial Marines, Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel.
The only games they did right were the expansion packs Opposing Force and Blue Shift for Half-Life.
Randy Pitchford is a fucking asshat.

Borderlands 2 was awesome. The rest, I agree with.

What does Gearbox making shitty games have to do with GOG losing the rights to games not made by Gearbox? Sure, fuck Gearbox for making a travesty out of a couple of great franchises, but they aren't to blame for the way rights ownership works.

Actually BL2 was pretty awesome now when I think about it. I mixed it up with the first BL, which so effing slow.

Looks like we have ourselves a little Gearie fanboy here.

Not in the slightest. I own exactly zero Gearbox games and the only one I've ever tried was Borderlands 2 (hated it). I just think it's stupid to say "fuck Gearbox" over what is simply normal business practices in the gaming industry. Like I said, rights change hands all the time, this isn't the first time GOG has had to deal with this, it certainly won't be the last.
Damnation!

I hope this Duke issue gets resolved ASAP. It just isn't right.
Who the hell is this Randy Pitchfork?
