A fairly large number Indians are very overly patriotic. Its ok to have a little love for your homeland, but some people self identify with this piece of land and become all butthurt when people say something they don't like. And people rationalize it with history and say people here have suffered a lot and use it as an excuse to hate other countries. And I feel the politicians exploit this and keep the country isolated from better standards on important principles like free speech gender and marriage laws.

Also the some politicians here are very very dumb. I've sometimes thought if they're just acting or not, but their views are outdated as hell, and their logic scares me and people still like them somehow.

How is that relevant? (It is worth noting that Christian extremists tend to be anti-abortion, even in cases where it endangers the health of the mother or the pregnancy is the result of being a rape victim.)

I was just curious as to what reason you had for feeling this way. Not trying to be combative.

Nationalism is fine, as long as people aren't nazis about it.

For my country, Romania, it must be hygiene. After some studies, these are some figures:
Average figures, per one individual:
- 100-125 ml of toothpaste/year;
- 400g soap/year.
Also, half of us are washing their hands after they are using the toilet.

This are not necessary behavioral traits, as they are influenced by poor living conditions of big part of population. Regarding other study, 41% of our population do not have current water, are not connected to sewage network and their toilet it's outside of the living house.

Nevertheless, there are some behavioral problems too, as it can be painful to use public transport in our capital city in the summer.

Other known traits can't really be generalized, as they usually apply to a small portion of our total population, things like we're all thieves.

Opposite to Portugal guy, our ladies are beautiful. But some of them might not care about their hygiene too much, so beware. :)

Then, we have religion. The church institution it's financed from public funds, so we can say that we're pretty religious. It's a bad trait if you ask me. For example, i was raised atheist by my family, but, in school i had to attend to religion hours and i had to go to church. I didn't cared too much, but this was worse for one colleague that had other religion. He was pretty much forced to attend and follow christian rituals even if he didn't believed in them.

No doubt since we waged war on Finland in 1939 and got Karelia region (Karjalan tasavalta)... again.

Alcohol abuse and excessive drinking is a norm here. Corruption and various scams also a norm here. Ridiculously fake and artificial "nationalism" and "patriotism" is also quite present. I've also noticed a lot of resentment and ridicule for education and self-education, as in people getting very angry about even a slight idea of them learning a foreign language etc.
And also general hate for almost everything outside the borders of the country. I'm dead serious when I say I found very little good traits among the people here because the decent people are really outnumbered here, no exaggeration.

And I'm not from Christmas island where everyone is all christmassy and suff :D. I come from the Czech republic, right in the middle of Europe. So if you're a fan of travelling, feel free to come here to get scammed by the cab drivers, restaurants etc., and if your skin color and facial features are visibly different from the local population, then enjoy some funny hateful sidelooks :D.

Worst trait: That we ripped land and life away from people who lived here before us while calling the land uninhabited and claiming it for ourselves.

Also, obesity. It's a spreading epidemic brought on by sedentary lifestyle and bad eating habits.

Hypocrisy: I weigh over 300 pounds and am disgusted by fat people. I also hate other hypocrites.

dishonesty: People will lie or cheat all the time. If you hit someone with your car and no one sees it, you need to help that person instead of racing off and letting them die. The "As long as my life isn't affected" mentality is grossly disgusting.

Generating Racial Tension: I don't like a man for his actions and behaviors. He happens to be of a different race than my own. That doesn't make me racist. But people here will make a racist issue out of nearly anything in a heartbeat. The media always throws the race of a criminal and/or victim into a story as though it's relevant to the story in any way.

NOTE: Not all traits are limited to United States-ians. But I don't live around others to observe them like that.
