tinyE: "It’s just that no one bothers to try to find them because no one wants GOG accounts."

So all of us are here at gun point? :P

BeatriceElysia: Or plain stupid. :P
I am obviously, but there are a few smart people in here. What's their excuse?

IDK, people have perks. Seriously, is gog business model store and do people more care about Witcher 3 than gog store?

BeatriceElysia: I think this guy has disturbingly good point - for gog users. I'm personally here for it's store, and not for Witcher series, but is there any chance this man is wrong?
yes, i manually download and install the witcher 3 (as with all my games on gog) regardless of what infinity multiplied by convenience equals.

when it comes to anything i'm spending money on, control is more a value to me than convenience and/or social function.

He is completely wrong.
avatar
BeatriceElysia: The GOG galaxy client is probably full of security holes as well as their website
He doesn't know that. And I can say that they comletely secure. And you can say they have some problems, but not that much. And ALL of this is just assumptions, nothing more.
avatar
BeatriceElysia: GOG renamed itself to GOG expresslly to distance themselves from 'old games' and instead into a more generic store. makes sense given taht eventaully you will simply rn out of games to port.
This is just stupid. Old games arrive every new year. :) And today's games will be old few years later.
avatar
BeatriceElysia: So guess what. GOG is basically a 2nd class citizen. No one wants to invest in GOG because that money is probably better spent on CD Project. I mean sure they'll keep GOG running, but if push comes to shove, GOG isn't getting money/resources. CD Project and the Witcher are. As a publicly traded company CD PRoject needs to generate profit. And investors will not take kindly to their investment continuing to generate less and less profit over time, as CD Project has done in the past 2 fiscal years.

Investors do not care that in FY17 GOG made 10k PLN more profit than FY16. They care that CD PRoject make 80k LESS PROFIT in that same time period.
So, is he really know what investors think or just another assumption like with security problems? And he really know that "GOG is basically a 2nd class citizen" and "I mean sure they'll keep GOG running, but if push comes to shove, GOG isn't getting money/resources"? Really? And from where this information comes?

BeatriceElysia: This is probably why GOG Galaxy is sucking so hard for so long. Despite all the fanfare they've done literally nothing with the platform other than make a very bad glorified Steam clone from a 2010.
There is much bigger problems with Steam UI: http://shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=39344

Read it, it is a VERY interesting article. Also, Galaxy have exactly thing that I need: I can play game even if my Internet connection is lost. :)
avatar
BeatriceElysia: They had the opportunity to get millions of people onto GOG and hook them into their store

And what did they do?

Nothing
And this is why now on GOG we have more games, more companies, more customers and new features like gamer's profiles. Yes, this is exactly why GOG did nothing. It just appeared! Miracle!!! XD
avatar
BeatriceElysia: That seems incredibly naive given that the only way to get the Witcher 3 when it was relaesed was

1) On steam directly
2) Go to GOG
Actually, it was directly from GOG - from publisher's store. :) Like Battlefield from Origin or Far Cry from Ubisoft Store. :)

BeatriceElysia: GOG is a store. GOG is a business. ITs not your friend.
Yes, it is business like Steam or Origin. But business can be different like donations in Battlefront 2 on start or like in Warframe. Both business in same area - online gaming, but their approach is different. :) Business can be customer-friendly, or -unfriendly.

BeatriceElysia: I think this guy has disturbingly good point - for gog users. I'm personally here for it's store, and not for Witcher series, but is there any chance this man is wrong?
He doesn't have a point at all, only his assumptions. And, like I suspect, he can be a Steam fanboy who hates to see that customers leave this store. This year Activision will publish new Call of Duty in Battlenet, not Steam. So, basically, Steam now becoming is somewhat a junkyard with low-quality indie games. And a lot of DRM.

kalirion: Are there any official numbers that confirms that 90% of GOG's profits are from Witcher series?
CD is a public corporation. The quarterly reports are on their website.

Yes, even Polish corporations.

GOG is 10 years old. It's pretty rough around the edges but I know plenty of people that like and use the store pretty consistently. Usually paired with other DRM-free methods or Steam. I think it's pretty obvious that The Witcher probably makes the most money here, that doesn't mean it makes the only money.

This guy just sounds like he has some inane bullshit to prove to himself.

And this is exactly why profits generated by GOG is rising every year - people just can't stop making new profiles and buying Witcher 3 again and again from GOG! XD

Hahahaha, good one.
Somehow, I feel a post on Steam about another platform is akin to posting shade about Nintendo on the PS forums.
I;m in the middle of a project so I can;t sit here and read numbers.
