kalirion: Strange, I enjoyed The New Order far more than I did RtCW. Have yet to play The Old Blood, but I expect to enjoy that one as well.

ChrisGamer300: For me it was quite simple, Machine Games reboot tried to focus heavily on story but the story throughout both reboots are downright atrocious with too much added for shock value and cringe moments, nazis are portrayed as cartoon villains and without any sort of layers to their personality, for me they could have been robots instead of humans
Well, considering that Wolfenstein-3D had mecha-Hitler as a boss, I think that part was rather faithful to source material.

New stuff is fine, but when it turns the series into a weaker experience by a large margin, then there's a problem. The game just does not play very well in general, and when the play is a major problem of a game that's a big deal, to me and most others

Thanks to the OP for the warning. I was interested, but only as a single player. Won't bother now. I've enjoyed all the Wolfensteins, and have just finished New Colossus, which I thought was mostly a really good time. I really hope large publishers get over themselves about creating single player, linear games soon. Sometimes they offer the best experience.

Weaker is usually subjective, as is some of the stuff you said you disliked about the newer games being "bad". :\

To be honest, I like the cinematic look and feel of some of the newer games, and even some of the new mechanics as well...for some(in general) to say it's all bad just because it doesn't conform to how older games used to look/play is absurd.

The thing that really seems baffling about this is that MachineGames seemed pretty adamant that they wanted to shift focus toward a single-player narrative driven "experience" for their work on the series, which helped contribute to them leaving people wanting multiplayer in the New Order scratching their heads. Now, they drop this onto the market and expect their word to still hold up?

If the plotlines/world stick to what they've established I think it holds up storywise.

Removing the ability to pause / save in single player games isn't "subjective", it's just dumbing down taken to an extreme. I think many here have been playing long enough to know what's a genuine "subjective" difference of opinion vs "what doesn't pass the smell test" as an excuse for bad / lazy game design, and merely reading through the (now mostly negative) reviews on Steam, it's pretty obvious there's a whole lot more wrong with this game than just an "I don't like this game because I am an old person and this is too new and edgy for me" difference of opinion...

I'm still baffled that Gamespot gave Youngblood an 8 - no mid mission save, ammo doesn't get refilled on death, pointless RPG system, bullet spongy enemies etc. It may not be the worst game ever but surely it's not an 8/10.

I was talking in general.....yes, some stuff is objectively bad, like those examples....but "cinematic" games(cutscene laden), reloading health, etc....none of these things make a game bad or good just because one dislikes them and isn't used to them.

As for pausing/an aside: ME: Andromeda won't allow saves in some major missions(they have autosave checkpoints in some parts) and to me it's still somewhat decent.

Already heard bad things about The New Colossus, and I guess I'll be taking Youngblood off the wishlist as well.
IMHO Wolfenstein The Old Blood is the best of this re-boot series. I enjoyed it thoroughly -- enough to play through twice (something I cannot say about any of the other Machinegames installments). Everything else in this series is diminishing returns. Youngblood is just... well... multiple layers of sad.

Well, that's the BIG problem with this title... it's 100% a co-op game masquerading as a single-player experience. From terrible AI to poor "saves" repetitious levels and looter-shooter gatekeeping, there is little to no joy to be found in this game played SP.

Unfortunately, the state of things in the world (culture, politics, economy, arts in general and videogame quality and standards, etc etc) remembers me more and more of a specific "South Park" episode.
And boy... is the world much, much worse since the time that episode aired :(
