Have you tried looking for some solution here?

This may be one of the most on-topic general discussion threads I've seen in this forum.

I will try, see if that works though, thx for linking me this
It's likely it simply won't run on Win 10... I remember there was a determined user trying all kind of suggestions from Wizardry subforum recently, and none seemed to work.

I have the GOG version of Wizardry 8 and some months ago I tried to run it on Win10 and it worked without problems.

If you're using Galaxy to run the game, try disabling the "Overlay" option in the Galaxy settings. I think it messes up when trying to run older games.

In case everything fails, you may try the suggestion in this video. It's based on the steam version of the game, but maybe it works on the GOG version too:

Works for me (Windows 10 Pro 64-bit; not using Galaxy but installed with the offline installer).

But, GOG doesn't support it officially on Windows 10, so there may be issues with some configurations, dunno.

You can find information here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/provide_a_full_and_complete_changelogged_download_system

The installer which is available on gog now does not work on windows 10, some people believe it does, but there are lots of confirmed cases, mine included, where it does not. Unfortunately there is no legal way to get the old installer, which incidentally contains more content. Unfortunately this is a major problem with GOG which shows no sign of going away I am afraid, get yourself a refund.

Note, I have the old installer, which I installed, worked flawlessly with the ore made characters. The version I downloaded from gog, the latest one, installed ran, did not have the pre made characters, made the sound card screech madly, then crashed when the game started.

Well, it's possible one of suggestions will help OP. "Likely" may have been too strong. But like you said, even GOG don't seem to think they can make it reliably work on that system. shrugs

My theory - stupid as it may be - is that's some sort of issue related to the graphic cards or the CPU.
My desktop is still one of the early generation i5, pretty dated by now. So maybe that's why the game manages to run flawlessly.
I admit I never tried it on my old Win10 laptop, where I only have offline installers, but something tells me it won't work.

Just out of curiosity, I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Help pages on W8 is vague.

Download the offline installer ( do not install via galaxy.)

Click on the install and when the box comes up click on "options"

Manually change the file path and shorten the install name

Example: C:/Wiz8

The game cannot be installed into multiple folders or have a long name.

Start the game. There should be a short black screen before the 3Dfx logo comes up.

Turn off mouse smoothing.

Blame the merchants guild as it will crash once in a while.

-Running win 10 1909 good enough. Zen shouldn't be an issue.

Same bruh. Hey hey, people.

Update on my previous post:
Tried the game on my old laptop (+5 years old), using Win10 and the offline installer. Game is running perfectly.
I suspect there's something on recent hardwares which messes with the game.

I know what you mean but I'm still going to say it: are there any Windows games that directly interface with computer hardware?

For example: some game might not run on integrated Intel graphics, but a patch or driver update or workaround or tweaking a setting might solve that.

But as usual, the OP doesn't provide us with a lot of information about his system. My advise to him/her: contact support.

Don't the more recent ones have direct connection to the graphic cards (through the DirectX) or something?
I wouldn't know since IT is not my "hunting grounds" so I don't have authority to speak on such fields and I can only speculate.

But how is it possible that the same program won't run on some PCs and work flawlessly on others?

EDIT: sorry. When I was writing I didn't noticed your last comment.
