It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

(Ignore this. After failing to post several times due to a link, I tried on GOG galaxy and was directed to the general discussion forum...)

---

Many people seem to have no issue with this on win10 or get it to work with little trouble, but trying to launch the game doesn't do anything and I can't get it to work. If anyone can help or has suggestions then please let me know.

Things I already tried:

- Run through GOG Galaxy
- Run through the games exe
- Run in compatibility mode (XP, Win7), as administrator
- Move game folder to C:\\ and rename folder to Wiz8
- Move to C:\Program Files (x86)
- Update windows 10
- Update Nvidia drivers
- Switch to an older version of Wizardry 8 in the GOG settings
- Try all settings in 3DSetup
- Try suggested settings in nglide_config
- Install and use secom drivers
- Tried nocd patch from fansite
- Delete intro movies
- Verify / repair

Still, for anyone else who might be troubled by this: Have you or anyone else taken a look here?

Looks like they're linking the old support system. It should be this one: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/213038925-Wizardry-8-does-not-launch

If in doubt, uninstall galaxy.
Use the offline installers.
Install outside windows folders.
Enable directplay.

I will try that and then look through the other replies

My proper thread with more info is now here:

ShimakazeKun:
I'd start with what Darvond suggested. ;)

BTW, I think you're the first person I've seen who realized that Galaxy posts in general discussions and not in game specific forums.
As a note, W8 isn't officially supported for Win10. It's promised to run only on Windows 7 and 8.

The framework fix did not work / manual install link doesn't exist anymore
The mentioned link for wiz8 fix under "Game does not launch (GOG.com)" also does not exist anymore.

Please use this link instead https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/213038925-Wizardry-8-does-not-launch The link from PCGamingWiki leads to old support system and uses an old URL. If the fix works, please credit Darvond, I only checked if the link works. ;)

I tried it multiple times even with a fresh GOG install, it keeps telling me it isn't installed. Not sure what install location this file expects.

I'm aware but as my other thread mentiones, many people have gotten it to work on win10 and still do with only little trouble so I'd think there should be a way.

Perhaps this is worth trying out: https://www.gog.com/forum/wizardry_series/wiz_8_wont_install/post4

Edit: You have run the fix as administrator, right?

I know, for me it works out of the box. I'd figure the issues you have might be related on your hardware. I know at least it works on my Ryzen 5 computer with GTX 1060.

Yeah, it's rough to figure out what exactly the cause for it is.

I've already tried that but thanks. I use most of these apps as admin, yes.
Refer to the new thread I made in the correct forum, (but since most people write here I might as well add the info to my first post here)
https://www.gog.com/forum/wizardry_series/wizardry_8_not_launching_on_win10
I've just tried to install and play the game on my Win10 (had only played previously on Win7). It worked perfectly.
What graphic card are you using?
Have you tried changing the game resolution and 3d using the "settings" option on the Window's Start menu folder?
If you've tried absolutely everything that was suggested on Wizardry subforum, then I don't think I'll be able to find or come up with anything new...
