They have been casually mentioning this for a couple of years, I think. Of course they will be making it, The Witcher is a great world with a lot of potential left, a money-making machine for CD Projekt, and the franchise is more popular than ever with the Netflix show.

viperfdl: Would be interesting to play a different Witcher who perhaps just finished his training. Maybe then there would be a more interesting RPG system possible then in Witcher 3.
I would enjoy that. Focusing on a character other than Geralt would give a lot of creative freedom to tell new stories.

That's the part I am really excited about. I am in love with Geralt as a character but I can't say I enjoyed playing as him. Slaying monsters and helping villagers for their hard earned money as a freshly created character with my OWN NAME and LOOK gives me shivers already.

But of course it would be nice to meet Geralt in a similar case you meet Drizzt in Baldur's Gate.

IIRC, this was the original idea for the first game but they figured at some point that they should just have you play as Geralt for marketing reasons or something.

I would have loved that. Playing as Ciri during Witcher 3 made me realize I really want a quick witcher instead of lumbering old Geralt. Cat school here we come!

Another fun idea: strategy game about the rise of Nilfgaard. It would be like Civilization with elves and a dozen warring little kindgoms in the north.
