Although W3 isn't out yet, but out of these two which are you most looking forward and which do you think you'll go back to for replay value.

GTA V looks amazing especially with that 1st person mode (is a sucker for that prospective) That being said Witcher 3 looks pretty stunning to. Just seeing geralt go swimming in that game looked interesting ro me. So yeah, just want to know what your thoughts on these games are.

The choice is easy, The Witcher 3. It is DRM free, while GTAV contains atleast two kinds of draconian DRM.
Pre-ordered witcher 3, but can't run it. Don't have GTA 5, but I could run that game, but got no money for it.

I don't think a comparison is valid since Witcher 3 is not out yet but when it comes to replay value I think Witcher would win whereas GTA V wins when you compare the size of world and things you can do in it in one playthrough.

1st pension mode? That's the one right there, game feature of the year, if not decade ;)
Which answer do you expect from members of a site that is dedicated to DRM free gaming? ;)

I'd take the DRM free game over the other one anytime,
in this case I'm sure Witcher 3 will be better in many other regards too though.
GTA V is the winner by default for me. For one open world games are my favorite genre, I'll dump hours into even mediocre games just because I like the ability to explore, do what I want, etc. The GTA series has always been great to me, even GTA IV has its bright spots from what little I've played of it. GTA V looks beautiful graphically, everything else looks like a nice upgrade and I look forward to trying to find familiar landmarks around San Andreas. However I'm holding on off on getting it until it solves its current issues and when I discover just how DRM-y the Rockstar Social Club is.

As far as The Witcher series, I don't have any real interest in The Witcher 3 or the series as a whole at the moment I only played a little past the tutorial area of The Witcher before I quit. I didn't particularly like anything about it and disliked the initial characters, how they were presented, the clunky feel of everything etc. Oh and earning *that* card just by being nice made me facepalm. I tried giving The Witcher 2 a chance but it won't run smoothly even on minimum settings on my current computer. I'll give them another chance one day but that day isn't today and probably won't be tomorrow or the day after either. I really should get around to giving their soundtracks a spin though...

GTA V? What's that, can't find it in GOG's catalogue ;-P
No GOG, no dice, hence I definitely prefer The Witcher 3.

This true it's just speculation for fun really. But that is an interesting point you have. What makes you want to replay Witcher more then GTA?

That really is a biggy for me. I wish the Witcher 3 had it. It's not that I think first person is the best. It's just what I'm used to and most comfortable with.

You do understand that I'm messing with you due to the word you used, right? Do take a look at the quote again.

I knew DRM would affect the purchase decisions which is why I posted it here instead of Steam.

I hope you don't mind me answering, but from my point of view, the GTA games (and that style in general). Nothing against The Witcher in this case, but the GTA games (and again, that style in general) are built to let you have a ton of fun without ever touching the main quest (or any quest). Whether going on rampages and seeing how long you can last, doing stunts, cruising around just checking out the world or driving/flying weaving through traffic at max speed while listening to the radio.

Sure that type of stuff (side missions aside) doesn't have the "depth" of handcrafted side missions but they can be just as fun and aren't finite unlike side missions (outside of randomly generation quests like Skyrim has).

Yes I think people will favor Witcher 3 being the first AAA game released DRM free on a site such as this. However the Steam community I'm sure will favor GTA so I want to hear what the other side of the coin has to say :P

I totally mind and I'm going to ban you. Not just from GOG but from the whole internet.

Joking aside I do want to hear both sides. I think both games are something to look forward to and while they are quite different in terms of game play and style. They are also trying out new things that the previous games haven't done before. I think this makes for interesting discussion.

Another pertinent question is how many people can actually run The Witcher 3 on their systems when it comes out on May 19th. The GTA V port is really well done and scalable on a variety of system configurations. So in terms of more people actually being able to play the game, GTA V wins i.e. ofcourse if they don't have a problem with Rockstar Social Club DRM. ;)

Oh, it's not that new, they've been using that for more than twenty years. Bonus: soundtrack
