I want to get the Witcher 3 GOTY edition however I am aware that the enhanced edition is right around the corner. I read somewhere that existing owners of Witcher 3 will get an upgrade to the enhanced edition free of charge when it releases. Does anyone know if that is applicable to the PC version bought here on GoG?

It applies and you will get the update.
Not only will you get the update as stated above but if you're unable to run the Complete Edition's enhanced graphics, you'll still be able to enjoy the new free DLCs that are coming with it even on the original GOTY edition of the game.

Could someone point me to news about this? I have looked and couldn't find anything about a Witcher 3 enhanced edition, and I would like to learn more about it.

They're not calling it Enhanced edition AFAIK, but rather next gen update - https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/1/22649551/cyberpunk-2077-witcher-3-next-gen-ps5-xbox-series-upgrade-update-release-announcement

Ah, so is this only going to be for Console owners, or will it be for PC owners?

I mean more towards will the updates/upgrades work on PC or only for the Console owners (that article just mentioned two consoles, and spent more on cyberpunk than witcher). I know I could 'claim' the upgrade, but could I use it on a PC.

As triock said, they're not calling it "Enhanced Edition". They're calling it "Complete Edition". To answer your second question, it's for everyone who currently owns the game and all future purchases will be the Complete Edition.

This video summarizes most of what we know about it.

Based on the article, it says this is only for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Thank you, and everyone else who replied.

And thanks for letting me know it isn't the 'enhanced edition', I should be able to find out more now. I just sort of wanted to know what was being updated and if there were going to be any new goodies, which it seems there are.

(I just decided to replay the witcher series, and am almost finished with 1 again, like literally in the epilogue. so hopefully by the time I get to 3, the complete edition will be out.)

The tweet linked says that it will be for the PC as well, so PC users should be able to use it (whether our computers will melt down or not is another question :P)

Ah, okay, Thanks for letting me know.

Right now, I am going slow, because I am playing witcher, then playing something else etc.. For instance, I started the witcher, completed it mostly, then got Mad Max and went and played that to completion without touching the witcher in the mean time.

So it will likely take me a while to finish up 1 and then finish 2.

Ooh - that's new news to me. I hadn't heard much other than "Q3" which is rapidly running out...
Interesting... This is surprising that updates would be done for Witcher including new DLCs but we still haven't seen any DLC's at all for CyberPunk 2077 yet...
Next-Gen Witcher 3 and CP 2077 delayed to 2022:
