Are the W3 cloud saves working properly?

I just formatted my PC. Prior to that I made sure I saw the "cloud saves synced" message in GOG Galaxy.

After I reinstalled I fired TW3 up once before realizing I hadn't opted into the beta client. I did that and restarted and saw in the "Backup and Goodies" section Cloud Saves Backup Copy. I clicked that, it appeared to download something, but none of my saves are available. New Game is my only option.

Does anyone know if cloud saves are functional?

Thanks,
-Ben

Using the backup copy places your saves in the !Downloads folder in the Witcher 3 directory. These are backups and have to be manually moved to the documents folder to use them I believe. Check there...

If your save were backed up correctly before formatting, then the saves should have downloaded automatically before starting the Witcher 3 assuming it didn't fail or anything. It may have even asked you if you want to use saves in the cloud or local saves, and told you which was more recent.

Ok, found 'em and copied and that worked, thanks!

I figured the Cloud Saves would automatically copy themselves to the right location. A little extra work but no biggie.

That's the thing, they should have when you started the game. Something clearly failed or something went wrong. These backups in "goodies and backups" are simply that backups, they are provided to you to manually use for whatever purpose. The released a new update today with optimizations, hopefully it will work correctly for you next time.

Thanks, good to know. Hopefully next time this comes up it'll all be cleaned up and working smoothly.

Thanks for the help!

Well that answers then the thread title. So if others experience the same problem, they now know where to look. Thanks.

Hi,

I think this is a bit of confusion caused by the fact you installed the game on GOG Galaxy 1.1. Cloud storage is synchronized if we install a game, run a game (via the Galaxy client), verify/repair or uninstall a game - but only on GOG Galaxy 1.2, of course.

But, from what you're saying, you clicked PLAY on 1.2 - that should trigger the synchronization mechanism. If that is indeed the case, could you report an issue on mantis.gog.com? Please attach your logs (a zip of C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs would be great), that would help us investigate, because this smells like a bug :)

Thanks Liosan, I will.

I'm guessing it's less a bug and more a workflow issue due to there being the two versions of Galaxy right now. As in, once 1.2 is released it won't be possible to do what I did here :)

I dont understand what you're trying to say, can you explain further in depth because i have the same issue but dont know how to solve it.
Hi,

Sorry to hijack this thread but, since we're on the subject, can anyone explain why the savegame sync for Witcher 3 is taking forever? Is it because of the size of the save files? I had to disable cloud sync for this game just to be able to play it, otherwise I had to wait an eternity before the game started, which is just infuriating. Sync works fine for other games though.

Yeah, as far as I can gather it is the size of the save files as a lot of people have had problems with it. The saves folder can apparently be a few GBs big, which can take a long time to upload on most connections.

How much does a W3 savegame weight? O_o

And why does the synch stop the game?
It should be done in the background, except for the missing required ones on the drive (usually the last one).
Btw, cloud saves for W3 should be (optionally) auto-disabled with a warning if the user's connection isn't strong enough for this operation.

They are not huge individually, but some people have literally dozens of saves. The sync happens at game close. It also syncs everytime you open the game. And I don't mean it does a quick check, It downloads the game saves automatically EVERY time you open the game. So if you have 35 save files, they ALL get downloaded everytime the game is opened instead of a quick check like size/time/date with an option to download the files if those don't match up.

Yup. Some good features are there, but they're not viable functions yet. GOG is selling a bill of goods and their inability to deliver on some of it is astounding. I'd have gone after people who have implemented some of these features before either from the user side or the client side just so they'd have experience. But GOG demands everyone who wants to work for them relocate to Warsaw first.
