It would be nice if Dream List had a way to identify if a game has already been posted. Otherwise, it's just like Wishlists on here, without the images.

For example, I did a search for "Wizardry" to upvote the original Wizardry series that isn't on here yet - and found multiple entries for several of the same game.

I don't know how you'd lock it down - or maybe, when someone submits a game - it auto-searches the existing game entries and says, "Did you mean this?" And give a yes/no option - so if it is the same game, they can click "no" and it wouldn't create duplicate entries.

Sure, that'd be great, if many games didn't also have the same name, like Captain Blood & Captain Blood, but one of those is also known by a french title, so that's ALSO listed.

...You might be wondering why do I have in my wishlist, an entry for Captain Blood, and Not Captain Blood.

You see, someone didn't bother to do a moment's research to think, "Hey, maybe I shouldn't name my game the same as a perennial favorite game from 1988 that had multiple sequels."

And that's just one such example.

Note in the attached screenshot: One of those is the right game attached to the wrong game. Click it just leads to the store entry. One of those is the game under the French title. And one of those is some game I don't even care about involving some pirate in the age of Piracy.

Yeah, it'd be nice to have the multiple entries of the same game tidied up. I like the idea of 'did you mean this?' when adding a game. Though sometimes people add certain versions of the same game and would still choose 'no (I want the ultra-mega-definitive edition, not the ultra-mega-definitive-final edition that changed the colour of one sprite)' ... but that would be few and far between.

I wonder how they relate too - When I first clicked on the Dream List, I found I had some votes pre-entered, so does this mean they grabbed some from the Community Wishlist? But other games I'd voted for on the wishlist didn't have my vote on the dream list (perhaps the multiple instances issue from the wishlist?)

Anyhoo, I'm hoping this is gog's way of getting more votes on the thing by making it more visible, so they can then go to the publisher and say "See - there's demand - free monies for your older games - win-win, etc".
Of course some games have different variants and different ports etc.

And then you get folk listing a game, but not properly, and then someone else comes along and does it properly.

You really can't automate for all the differences that might occur.

If GOG had more time and money, they could have someone oversee it all.

The Dream List it seems to me, is just a spotlight on the Community Wishlists, though it does make it more attractive with the images etc, and someone has taken the time to address some of the naming issues. I managed to add a few more votes, for games I had overlooked due to how the Community Wishlists are arranged etc.

I don't expect the Dream List will bear any more fruit than the existing Community Wishlists though. It is already pretty clear what are the big favorites.
