Well, all is not lost - it's a young industry, anybody can still turn their steps to the quality assurance / testing division as a gateway position in their game development career - according to a YouTube video I'll link at the bottom (it's mostly in Polish) those people started in testing:
• Feargus Urquhart, now CEO of Obsidian, began as a tester at Interplay,
• Matthew Singh, now Game Producer at Obsidian (Fallout: New Vegas, Tyranny),
• Brandon Adler, now Game Producer at Obsidian (Pillars of Eternity),
• Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, now Game Director at CD Projekt RED, started in 2005 as a tester, finished medical school,
• Magdalena Czarnecka, now QA Engineer at Artifex Mundi, was an accountant, but didn't like it,
• Artur Maksara, now Designer at Flying Wild Hog, started as a tester
Sergiusz Ślosarczyk, Head of QA at QLOC, says that many testers end up being team leaders / managers at QA, or leave QA and go into design, account management or HR.
