ET3D: Microsoft will stop urging you to upgrade in about 2 months, so you could install SP1 at that point.

timppu: Considering what a dickweed Microsoft has been so far with this whole Windows 10 upgrade mess, I wouldn't be surprised if as a parting gift they release some Windows 7 (and 8.1) update that seriously cripples those OSes. Kind of a revenge for not complying to their urges to move to Windows 10.
...snip
What they will revert all Win 7/8.x OS's to Vista, nooooo!

rtcvb32: At this moment i'm quite satisfied at not having updates enabled, and i can live without SP1. True some of the new programs and games aren't available, but there's decades of programs and games to enjoy.

However you can still run newer programs even if they require the VS2015 components, you just have to extract them and manually copy the dll's. I don't know if that is a proper or official way to do it, but i got a few programs to work that way...
How would i go about doing this to get Gog galaxy to work?
!!!!

i got it working with out SP1. I downloaded Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) for Windows 10 and installed it on a separate computer. Then i grabbed the DLL's from C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Redist\ucrt\DLLs\x86 and copied them into the gog galaxy folder where galaxyclient.exe is located.

It takes a while for it to load but it finally loads.

%*&$ YOU MICROSOFT!

I actually had to search for the filename in order to fine the thread as it's 2 weeks old at least and i didn't mark it to keep track of. Not surprising you didn't see it.

nuker43: I understand what SP1 is and i understand everyone is going to tell me to install it but ive been using this set up for years and i feel i shouldn't have to be forced to do something different. GOG galaxy is acting like microsoft and is forcing people to install an update they might not want. It's pretty frustrating. yes i can install sp 1 but what if i dont want to? Yes great don't use GOG galaxy then... but what i want to use gog galaxy? I've been using it fine up until now and right when blood and wine comes out i have to deal with this. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me.
I know what you mean! I've run into a similar problem. Galaxy won't run on my set up either even though it's one I've been using for years without any problems. I just hate being forced into updates. I mean I just don't understand why they won't support Windows 98, it's always worked fine for me. Sure, I could use a supported OS, but what if I don't want to?

Yup. Why should we ever update our software to run newer software? Why should we ever develop programs with dependencies that are generally ubiquitous instead of taking the long way around or just leaving features out because old software doesn't support it? I appreciate your unwillingness to upgrade to Win 10, but saying "X has worked for years, why do I need to change?" is ridiculous, especially since X is starting to no longer work. Your machine is a walking security risk. I feel like my machine may get infected just posting to you.
I have Win 7 Service pack 1.
Never had any Win 10 Advertisement.
I installed it manually though.

nuker43: So i have the dreaded "The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is mising form your computer" error and ive read all about it. It seems the only fix is to install Service Pack 1 if you are on windows 7. Well i refuse to do this because i am avoiding windows 10 like the plague and having service pack 1 installed is a gateway for microsoft to automatically update your computer to windows 10.

So, am i screwed?
Please forgive me, but didn't the support for Windows 7 without the SP1 ended in April 2013? That is three years ago!

Three years without any security update? Yeah, that sounds like you are screwed.

Don't forget KB3086255, which breaks the SafeDisc copy protection so that legitimate, uncracked versions of games that use it can't be run (also on Vista and 8/8.1).

Also, yeah, get SP1.

KB3086255 is fine, you can simply change the SafeDisc service state after installing this update (see MS15-097 for details). SafeDisc games will work as expected while the service is active.

These steps do not work for Windows 10 (which completely omits SafeDisc support).

3 years ago I would agree with you.

Today I think updates makes spyware / malware / trojan become from maybe to definite your PC is infected. Unless you religiously play whack the mole with all the updates Microsoft unhidden and you hide.
