toshiba360: any suggestions for newer games like morrowind and Fahrenheit?
As I said, those were also made before the advent of widescreen, but , a site dedicated to the subject, has some hacks and workarounds to play them that way ( link for [url=http://www.wsgf.org/dr/indigo-prophecy]Fahrenheit, link for Morrowind). I don't know much about it myself, though, as I usually just play games the way they were originally made.

Black on both sides is good. That means that a game that was made for 4:3 monitors is displayed correctly instead of being stretched and having the image distorted.
True, a widescreen patch to make it 16:9 would be better, but between a stretched 4:3 and pillarboxing, pillarboxing is the better option.

Agree 100%. Stretching a 4:3 image into a 16:9 ratio just makes everyone look like they've had a piano fall on their head. Pillarboxing is definitely the way to go with 4:3 games.

yeah for sure. just thought some of the "newer" ones like morrowind or System Shock 2 could be able to fit my new screen instead of pillarbox.

I think "newer" is stretching it a bit. System Shock 2 is from 1999. There weren't any widescreen monitors around then.

toshiba360: snip
If you want to play Morrowind in wide-screen without stretching the image you can use the programs MGE XE or Morrowind FPS optimizer.
If you bought Morrowind to have the best experience and not for archaeology purposes, you should also fix a few issues that the developers didn't solve. :)

Totally OT but I've just noticed that this questions has 2 answers marked as "the solution". I didn't know this was possible.
