Hello folks. I've just bought a new laptop running Windows 10 and it's telling me I can't run GalaxyClient. Does anyone know why please?

Reformat and put Windows 7 on it.

As for getting Galaxy working on 10, i don't know. I don't trust win10 or MS.

Galaxy works fine on Windows 10. Can you post a screenshot of the error? In order to take screenshots on Windows 10, press the Windows key and the PrtScr button at the same time, and then upload that screenshot to GOG as an attachment.

Most likely a missing dependence, not sure which one though. Snipping tool is preferred I'd say.

Privacy concerns alone make it something you shouldn't consider/use.

My international company (where I'm working at) have certified Windows 10 for general uses and we've started migration. IIRC it's now 75% complete barring a few old machines that don't even run Windows 7. Of course they're isolated from live network anyway for security notes.

It's pretty funny people bitching about privacy issue again and again.

GoG Galaxy works just fine on my Windows 10 laptop that I'm using now.

And there's an issue when you are playing a game halfway, suddenly window reboot because of forced updates.
Or suddenly minimized to show you try office 365 advertisement.

The Galaxy Client works fine on Windows 10 with me (on both my machines). If it doesn't, you probably need to reinstall Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679). And if you're running a 64-bit Windows, install both the x86 and x64 versions.

P.S. If you're so worried about the spying angle, let me direct you to this: https://www.safer-networking.org/2015/spybot-anti-beacon-tutorial/. I've been using Windows 10 in with that little software for the past six months and I've been worry free ever since. Never had that problem (you can stop advertisements, you know). And you can set reboot time, if you want (I set them at 3:00 AM since I know that my computer will be turned off by then.

Compared to issues I had with other versions of Windows, this is pretty small potatoes.

I don't see any stupidity there, I also experienced that because I generally leave my PC on during the night to download big games, Windows shows a dialog to reboot now or schedule... which I can't interact with because I'm sleeping, I also have a password to login so a sudden reboot totally ruins my plan. This is the only complaint I have with win10.

Back to thread: generally newly bought computers come with a Windows FC (full of crap) Edition which makes troubles instead of a "pleasant out of the box experience".

I'd recommend to do a clean install of Windows using an official clean source to avoid problems (you can extract the product key using Belarc Advisor) and using the media creation tool to make a bootable USB with a clean OS version then use the key you extracted before.

If you can't/not want to do that, try this: https://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ then try installing Galaxy again.

Very big issue indeed.
If you sleep then you should know that your PC is idle. There's no way it won't be idle if you sleep, unless someone else is messing up with the PC and thus the update schedule won't occur.

Been there done that. I know what I'm talking about.

I wonder if IDLE qualifies as not touching the mouse/keyboard for a period of time... which means using a controller you'd still be idle. But I'm guessing. I still remember mandatory updates to try and keep people from ripping their DVD's.

You have to consider it from the views of the page, not the total installs. 254 / 11025 = 2.3%, but that's people who actually looked at or glanced at the article. If we multiply it against the same totals, you'll get 2.3 MILLION people probably have had this issue, but haven't read the article (if statistics are anything to go by).

Oh, how about we comment about Microsoft UNINSTALLING your programs? Not to mention having access to your files, your emails, microphones that's probably always on (you know, so you can use 'Cortana'), copies of your encryption keys and passwords for your network, a keylogger built into the OS, etc etc.

It seems like they couldn't get the full blown same thing with the XBone, so instead they just moved it to their PC OS.

FYI, Microsoft has had about as much access to your data since Vista (They're just being more open about it now). Also you can disable all of the the data sharing except for very basic crash reporting (which contains no personal data). If you want security and privacy, use Linux. (Also, I don't understand the people who complain about privacy on their OS, then use Google and Facebook...) [As an aside, I use Google and Facebook. But I'm not concerned about my privacy. What do I care if a great big company has my information...unless I'm doing something they don't like. Then I use Linux as stated above.]

I personally think Windows 10 is the best version since 7 (And honestly, better in some ways, though worse in others).
