Hello everyone, I have a question and it seems I can`t find answer for it, at least not on my own.
My question is very simple: I have lot of games already bought on different platforms over last 12 years steam, Origin, uplay, Epic and my library grew bigger and bigger, at this moment I bought somewhere about 5000-5500 games.
But lately in last ten days I discovered gog and I kind of like it here, mostly because it`s peaceful, not much negativity, but there lies my problem. I don`t have many games here 193 so far...

So my big question is what to do? Should I start buying games here? Games i already own on different platforms. Is it stupid to spend money on things I already bought?

Honestly, I been watching prices in gog store, but I`m afraid to buy anything yet, If i start buying I know what would happened, I would buy tons of games I already have and played.

In last few days I was debating with my self a lot, still have no clue... I know it is something I have to decide on my own, but I thought maybe you could help me decide. If I start buying here is it stupid since I already have most of them...
This question is bothering me lately, and it seem I can`t answer it, not on my own.
I even chat with some nice people on galaxy about this subject, some of them told me to buy only games I really like, some of them told me not to buy anything.... So I`m pretty stuck.

What do you think I should do? Would you buy games on gog you already paid for somewhere else?
I would really appreciate any tip you could give me.

Would I personally rebuy? Yes. But I have my reasons.

Should you? Establish your own reasons. One piece of advice is choose carefully and don't rebuy games which are sub-standard with versioning. Some publishers/devs abandoned their GOG releases, or went bust sometime after releasing a final Steam patch and didn't update their GOG one. There's a thread or two which tracks release differences.

You might want to read the game forum of each title to see if there's other devils in the detail.

It also has to be down to personal taste. Do you really care about having a DRM-free version? If you do, then it's warranted to buy here. If you're happy with client-tied games then there's little point rebuying beyond supporting GOG itself. There's threads here also which track "DRM", but keep in mind the term doesn't have an agreed-upon interpretation for all people.

I will check that links thank you. I don`t expect for others to decide for me, just wanted advice like one I got from you.

You are aware that GOG offers the games DRM-free?
That would be the number one reason as to why you would/should(?) buy games here again, that you already own somewhere else.

However...a question that only you can answer: do you replay your games?
I mean: regularly, or at all?

If your answer to that question is "No, why should I, there are so many games that I haven't played yet (with 5000-5500 games that's a given), I probably will never find the time to replay the games that I have already played through."

Then I would say: save your money.

But again: only you can answer that question.

Of course: you could also ONLY rebuy those games, that you will definitely replay in the future - there's really no need to rebuy ALL the games you already own again.

Mostly to have them here and to play them on galaxy to get some achievements on galaxy and that`s it, nothing else.
I like drm-free games but I never play games outside of galaxy or in offline mode.

Save your money then. Why do you need galaxy achievements anyway? Other platforms have them too.

I was about to say something like BreOl72, that you could start rebuying only those games you'd like to preserve but in this case it's beyond pointless.

thank you for answer :) Some games I really like i play them many times, but many games I never even installed... It`s a problem i know. It`s maybe weird to say but I feel great buying them, but I can`t play them all...

Myabe I should buy here games I really like and games I know I would play here, that is more reasonable I think.

Speaking just for myself, here. But (as other users have already stated) the main advantage of GOG is selling DRM-free games. Meaning - mostly single-player games which you can play offline, without a client and obviously without the perks associated with online gaming (stats, achievements, etc).

I don't have an account on other stores (steam, epic, etc) so I only buy games on GOG. Like you I also used to always play through Galaxy. But these last couple of years I find myself using the client less and less and just installing and playing offline. The few times I use Galaxy is for backup my saves in the cloud.
I have many GOG games installed on my old laptop and I never installed Galaxy there and I don't have any plans too. That PC is meant for offline playing always.

Admittedly I think that if I had no problem in DRM and using clients then I'd just be buying my games on steam and I wouldn't bother with GOG. The advantages of GOG is that you can save your game installers to any place you want (like an external HD, an USB pen or a DVD) and that you can install and play the games without needing an internet connection (except for the basic downloading of game installers from the user Library).

It's up to you to decide which kind of thing will be most beneficial to you in the long run.
If you just want to focus on DRM-free gaming then there's no doubt - GOG is the best choice.
But if your focus is mainly just to play all the new games (regardless of DRM) achievements, etc ... then I honestly think you'll be much better served with steam.

Thank you karnak1 very detailed and helpful answer. It helps me decide.

Since I don`t play games in offline mode, I always use galaxy or other clients for my games there`s no point buying them again.
I play my games on PC, I don`t have laptop and internet here is always active, in last few years I think I never had to go offline, so this answer helps me a lot. No point buying them again, but I will probably buy few games I really like and want to play them.

The user wondered why you wouldn't want to buy on a platform, where the forums are possibly negative.
What he meant was that the possible negativity of the forums doesn't impact the games as such.
