The GOG forums are no worse than the Steam forums in many respects, however, there’s one cardinal sin : thread subscriptions :

- One can’t subscribe/unsubscribe to/from threads
- There’s a list of the latest threads one did participate to, but 1) it’s not comprehensive, threads beyond a point are not listed and 2) sometimes it doesn’t update properly
- One is notified of new activity only when it’s a direct reply. A reply to someone else in the thread doesn’t trigger a notification

All this makes for threads that die after some time, with new posters either unlikely to inform the old ones if they found a solution to a long lasting problem, or reach people who have the information they’re looking for.

Which is very sad for a forum, if you ask me.

No.

The question has been asked since 2012 at least, and the answer has always been no.

Hahaha...that's a good one.

I don't know that there ever has been an official answer. But, yeah, GOG clearly places the forums (and associated parts of the site, like the Community Wishlist) very low in their priority order. I honestly don't know why they haven't transitioned GOG's forums over to the software used for the CDPR forums or something, and just left the old forums as an archive.

Yes I know about the favourite threads, but it doesn’t change the problem with notifications, and in the end, suffers from the same problem than the posted threads list : oldest favourited threads disappear… or don’t they, for you ?

Tbh I don’t use favourited threads, except to add them to the list when some bug didn’t add the thread to the posted threads list, since I generally want to follow all threads where I posted, but I bet it has the same problem, i.e. you will be able to click Show more to extend the list up to some point where the button will simply disappear.

Yeah I know, at first the subject was “Will the forums be improved some century soon ?”, but I changed it.

I’m wondering too, though I rarely use the CDPR forums and don’t know what they’re worth. Ideally, they should import the old forum’s threads into the new one, but a strange little voice tells me it will never happen, and we will have to consider ourselves happy if we get a new forum… as long as it’s better functionally, that is.

In geological terms, yes, perhaps it will be soon.
Ah heck, I just replied with a “rofl” emoji and it didn’t work, yet another problem !

Waiting until the forums are improved.
Anytime now.
The forums aren't even as good today as they were on other websites back in 2008.
Soon™. O.o

There's no "show more" for favorite threads, all of them show up at all times, both on the main forum page and at the top of the respective section.

As for the general idea, considering how GOG's redesigns went, and how redesigns went on the web in general for the past decade or more, I'm almost certain that keeping the forums unchanged is the lesser evil.
To give you an idea of just how obsolete these forums were at release, there are forums running old versions of Vbulliten that have more features than we do.

I'm also not sure how many places force you to relog just to switch your avatar out.

I have to agree that this forum does indeed need some improvements. But I have to say for the three points you've listed, only the second point that I thoroughly agree with. As for the first point, you can subscribe to a thread and unsubscribe to one simply by pinning that thread as a favorite and unchecking it when you wish to unsubscribe to the thread. Unless by unsubscribing a thread you mean completely rendering it invisible from the general thread, then I don't think there's a feature for it yet. As for the last point, again, just make the thread as a favorite.

Is this the reason why you wish for GOG to improve its forum by adding notifications for every time a new post is added to your favorite thread because older favorite threads disappear? I personally have never experienced the issue myself, since I don't have that many favorite threads to begin with. And even my oldest favorite thread still hasn't disappeared, which dates way back to Oct. 28, 2018.

And based on what the others have said, I doubt any forum improvements are coming anytime soon, especially when there's this purple circle forum notification problem that still lingers to annoy anyone with OCD. So if you want your forum suggestions to be implemented, GOG will need to go their way to fix this problem first, or else even when GOG did finally implement that notifications feature you're asking, the purple circle problem will only prevent you from actually enjoying the benefit of that feature (since you'll have to personally check every single time whether you actually received an actual notification or not).

But yeah, I would like to see this problem fixed just as much as the next guy.
