Heh, just found out that Huniecam Studio is now available at mangagamer. While it needed achievements to make it interesting, surely galaxy is there for it.

Probably most publishers have started to think like EA where they have a chance of making more money if they offer the game on their platform instead of putting it on steam store and giving valve a cut of all dlc and what not.

I don't know... I feel that with both galaxy and steam, I've filled my quota of game-store clients.

Probably. I disagree that it would harm Bethesda to not release their games on Steam, they are one of the biggest developers these days with some of the most sought after new games (they literally just announced a name of a game that probably won't be released for a few years and people are excited).

The extra 30% income will make up for those fans who aren't willing to move away from Steam.
And once a couple of big companies do it Steam starts losing market share and more big companies decide it's no longer entirely worth it.

So I could easily see it going either way.

Monopolies are bad, and Steam has too much power. You won't be installing a new client for every game, that's silly hyperbole. We're talking about maybe 5-6 companies big enough to have their own client. The idea of big publishers putting games on GOG day one is a pretty dream that's never going to happen. I'm just being realistic.

sadly, this is what happens in movie industry as well. All different publishers want to release their own platforms, on their own terms, not having to share money with anyone.

It's a natural thing for business, but not a great thing for gamers - having to set up multiple accounts on multiple services just to play some games.

On the other hand, maybe their direct income from their own platforms will be significantly lower than on Steam, (or on Netflix, when it comes to TV shows and movies), and the situation will dissolve eventually. But I doubt that.

Right, that would satisfy the die hard GOGers with their sad little dreams of no DRM. But those games won't be coming here either. It's not good for anybody. Saying that, I wouldn't be surprised if you lot utilised the "if we can't have it, no one else should" approach to games.

What a strange way of looking at things. I think everyone in this thread realizes this is only going to happen because it benefits the individual companies concerned. It's certainly not for the benefit of the consumer and these games are highly unlikely to ever come to GOG anyway.
