I hate Steam with a passion but the big Picture mode is got me chained down. I just found GOG yesterday. And I always been about treating people the way you would want to be treated. So I'm onboard & would like to spread the word & see the company grow. My concern is there just so many games that don't offer controller support. Which equals tons of lost sales $$$$! And it's nice when playing games that even does offer controller support to have that option to be able to change the configuration & program the controller the way you want it to. To make an unplayable game,playable. And being able to share that configuration with the online community. Lets face it a lot of games with controller support are just off. And it's nice for the community to have that tool & to help out fellow gamers. Last night I googled alternatives to Steam & found GOG & I was going through the GOG library & there was so many good games that I would like to purchase. But again where back to the same problem with the controller support. I'm not here to argue which is better between keyboard & controllers. The truth of the matter is we all like to game in our own different way. And I would say now more then ever tons of console gamers are coming over to PC. And they want to game with what there familiar with. I do all my gaming on the couch like most people I know. And I know someone will say there are programs that are already out there that do this. But ease of use is important. And having it all in one nice tight package is convenient for the player. And those programs to me are trash. And trying to keep track of of the different games controller schemes is a nightmare. And to top it all off they do not have all the options that steam does with binding buttons together or in a certain order. Sensitivity for each stick & dead zones. I could go on & on. That's what makes the big picture controller setup so good. Because a lot of PC, RPG's (The Witcher 3 for example) need all those options such as a dial menu for all you Quickslots in PC games. But in Steam version there's a lot of room for improvement. Which a up & coming company like this could capitalize on. Such a picture/icons you put in Menu/Quickslots. Yeah Steam has this but it could be done better. The possibilities are endless. I just hope someone from GOG is listening. Because I love to see them smash the competition & rule the gaming world. I think we all want to do business with companies that treat there employees & consumers with respect they deserve. I always been a firm believer into karma. And we need some more of the good karma in our businesses. Because other kind of karma is choking use to death. And just maybe. More companies will jump on the wagon & be a respectful. Just think how different the world would be with companies caring about employees, consumers, & most of all the environment.

I certainly hope not.
Controllers on PC is a blemish.

It forces downgrades in usable keys and mechanics.
I've had to use AutoHotKey more and more these days, because so many games don't properly support mouse and keyboard. Mainly not having a re-binding option (or be able to bind to mouse buttons).
That's without going into the other effects crossplatforming is having. Like OTS cams, cutscenes galore, scripted actions, etc.

If you want to use a controller, consider gaming on a console.

I grew up with the Artari & the NES. And I to played those games on a computer (Doom,Wolfenstein). When playing with mouse & keyboard I just felt like I was trying to game with a brick in my hand. Just a few days ago I tried play COD Zombie with Mouse & keyboard. And it just wasn't working for me. I mean I was horrible. I know it takes time to get used to. But even after days it just doesn't feel right to me. I just can't believe there not a hybrid of both like the Steam controller. Which I was cool with but they were just made cheaply. And when gaming on the couch mouse & keyboard isn't right for me. Not to say it can't be done

I not here to argue which is better. Because I don't believe one is..Of coarse the mouse can move faster. But what I'm saying is you should be able to game with what feels right for you. If you prefer keyboard & mouse, by all means use what feels right for you. And vice versa. I would like to see this company grow & be bigger & better then steam. Steam is aware of this problem. That's why they did something about it. But this company will never grow to that size unless they address this problem. I've purchased tons of PC games that don't offer controller on Steam. Because I know I can still game with a controller. But without this option it'll be a huge loss of sales.

Controller support for PC games should be optional and working keyboard->mouse input mandatory. I've been burned many times buying sloppy ports. When using a controller is mandatory for a PC game it is a candidate for instant refund. Either a game is optimized for native input or isn't. When it turns out not to be? Good speed to developer and publisher. I don't support this.

So my friendly advice to you would be that instead of asking for controller support, maybe you'd be better off to head over to the XBOX store. Windows 10 allows you to play the games on your PC with controller on your couch. Maybe you should consider buying and/or switching over to consoles since many games aren't PC exclusive anyway?

Not sure what the OP is talking about. I use controllers with GOG games all the time and they work fine. No they aren't.

It depends on the type of game. Platformers and action games are much better with a controller than with a keyboard and mouse, which are horrible for action games & platformers.

Conversely, FPS-type games are horrible with a controller and great with a keyboard and mouse.

And since 99%+ of modern games are console ports that were specifically designed to work with a controller, therefore playing them with a keyboard & mouse usually results in a much inferior experience.

So, best practice is to always use the best control method for the type of game one is playing....which a lot of time, probably most of the time (except for people who play FPS only), is going be a controller.

Steam has a tool for remapping controllers, lets you use a PS4 or other 3rd party controller and remap keys.
I can also remap keys for older games that may not support xbox controllers.

All in all quite useful. there is a standalone program xmapper i think that does similar thing, but its require a bit more work.

I'm more of the mind of "the best tool for the job," and at times a gamepad simply is better than KB+M, specifically when a game was designed around gamepad controls. Unless you like your awkward keyboard gymnastics (with remappable keys or not)...

I haven't got a problem playing games with controller on PC in case that's the better option. I just don't support developers unable or unwilling to provide working and optimized keyboard and mouse control for their PC port. If they release on PS4 and controller support was bad but keyboard/mouse combo works flawless? Guess who'd complain loudest! Exactly! Dev and publisher would have a hard time if they weren't going out of their way to fix it. On PC they hardly even care and you get to hear: If you aren't satisfied with how keyboard/mouse works or you got problems with it use a controller! They call that a suggestion. This should not receive any support while ports working with both and both being optimized? Take my money is all I'm saying.

No way will I play Tekken series, Mortal Kombat series, Street Fighter series, or any others with a KB/mouse. It doesn't work well, for something it was never built for. All of those games w/ Z formations for special moves, half circles, full circles, and other rotations - much easier w/ gamepad.

Brawlers like Streets of Rage 4 and Yakuza 0 - also feel great with a gamepad.

Also, sports games like Madden series, WWE 2K series, etc etc - yeah, those also were built around controllers.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater games...play best normally with a gamepad.

Old-school games like classics click-and-point adventures; TPS's and FPS's done properly; CRPG's with strategic elements w/ click & point and queuing attacks up; strategy games; and games of that sort - yeah, those usually play best w/ a KB/mouse.

I said nothing about those genres, I only mentioned what games I experienced in my formative years, and on what platforms I played them.

I actually played some brawlers/"beat'em ups" on the NES, and my introduction was Mighty Final Fight and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Project. I also consider these best played on a controller, and I would include the entire "Streets of Rage" series is here.

I haven't played Yakuza 0, but my impression was that it's closer to Witcher 3 in gameplay, than it would be to brawlers. As such I would personally prefer to play it with keyboard and mouse.

Of course fighting games are best with a controller/fight stick.

It depends on what kind of game and genre of game. If it is an FPS game yeah Keyboard and Mouse are superior but if it is a turn based RPG game like DQ11 then Controllers/Game Pads are superior or even platformers like Super Mario Bros controllers are superior. Some ARPGs that were designed for Keyboard and Mouse like Diablo and Diablo 2 then that is what I will use. But a game like Duke Nukem Forever (Yeah the game sucks I know) The Driving parts a controller is better suited for those while the actual killing enemies the Keyboard and Mouse are better for those.

Agreed @ fighting games. Fighting games are best w/ controller or fight sticks. Especially games like SF, MK, Injustice, Tekken, etc etc.

Yakuza 0 is an open-world game like Witcher 3, but much smaller in size and scope. Though, you pretty much just walk into another nearby store, NPC's, certain spot, whatever - chances are, you're running into a side-quest or mini-game.

Though, to me - it feels like an open-world 3D brawler. Of course, yes - you also have bats, environmental attacks, and others things. For me, this just plays better w/ a controller.

So does Witcher 2+3. W2+W3 felt very clunky with a KB/mouse, especially compared to W1.

Man, I had a blast w/ beat 'em ups and brawlers back in the arcades, NES, Genesis, and my early gaming days. Tons of fun w/ TMNT: Arcade Game, Simpson Arcade games, SF games, MK games, Primal Rage, Final Fight, Saturday Night Slam, Streets of Rage series, etc etc.
