Tokyo_Bunny_8990: The only good franchise we have gotten from a sea of remakes and sequels to beloved franchises is Cobra Kai for the karate kid.
Breja: I wouldn't agree with that. Ash vs Evil Dead was awesome. Mad Max Fury Road is superb. Recently Ghostbusters Afterlife turned out really well. Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance also comes to mind. Even Bill & Ted Face the Music was in my opinion a lot of fun, even if not perfect. I could probably come up with a few more. Of course the important thing here is that all of those had the original creators and/or people close to them involved, even in charge. I thought needing original creators was the key but then we have Matrix resurrections and Terminator Dark Fate where Cameron destroys his own franchise in the first 10 minutes (I do think the Watchowskis basically got arm twisted into making the sequel as a its going to be done with or without you sort of thing so they didnt really want to).

Star Wars has definitely faded in popularity. Remember that Star Wars was one of the biggest film franchises in history. The OT:s cultural significance is not to be estimated.
Now, Star Wars toys are not selling when that was the blood of the franchise. It is no longer a movie series with no new movies coming out. Blame "fatigue" all you want, Marvel movies and tv shows are still going strong.
Solo was meant to be a trilogy, hence why the first Solo movie doesnt have Han transform into the Han we know from episode 4 at the end and the Darth Maul cliffhanger. Thats been dropped for all we know.
They also killed the franchise by killing off the Skywalkers. Star Wars is a family soap opera story as stated by Lucas many times in interviews, centered on the Skywalker family which is why the Skywalkers are in all of the movies. With Luke, Leia, and Ben dead, there is no one to carry on the Skywalker lineage starting with Anakin. Rey is not a Skywalker despite her name change.
Pretty hard to kill a franchise this badly but Disney did it.

Personally I believe that it is as much availability and environment to describe the fading, e.g. the real amount of fans and hype, than it is the worse state of the content presented. Granted, I would have been much happier if they had taken the path of following the books in line with the battle of the last imperial commodore, Leia's Twins etc but again. Choices have to be made and somewhere along the line this decisions was made creating maybe an even more important foothold for diversity, I mean a black Luke would have been even worse right. Marvel in its self is of course way more accessible than Star Wars ever was, but yea, they have done it right. I enjoy their shows almost as much as the Star Wars shows, but Star Wars remains to always have that special tinkle. Maybe there is too much of a fanboy in me

Tokyo_Bunny_8990: True the ones you mentioned are good but they havent led to a new spark and franchise (well maybe ghostbusters but we need to see).
That may be the measure of their success for the studios, but it shouldn't be for us. I haven't seen the new Matrix yet so I can't judge, but it's important to note that just like Star Wars with the prequel trilogy, the Matrix (which was always overrated in my opinion) was ran into the ground long before with the two utterly terrible sequel films. And Cameron may be Terminator's original creator, but he hasn't done anything actually good since... True Lies in 1994?teceem

teceem: Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2 Just my taste/opinion, of course. I haven't seen any of the documentaries that he directed.

It has already been confirmed that Isildur's sister (a completely made up character) will have a noticeable role in the series :)
Also, fully expect that there will be some "not evil, just misunderstood" Orc(s) or other evil creatures.

The level of decline is more important imo. The Star Wars prequel trilogy is a series with good ideas with terrible execution. If directed by a competent director that Lucas could have bounced ideas off of (which he wanted, hence why he requested Spielberg to direct PT), it could have been good.
The new movies are a whole new level of bad. Even if the Star Wars ST was an original IP and not Star Wars, they are still terrible movies. Same with Dark Fate which took a huge dump on the Terminator franchise although I guess I do agree that Cameron hasnt made anything good since Terminator 2 (havent seen True Lies. TItanic and Avatar maybe for what it achieved in terms of film although story-wise they are mediocre at best).
