PaterAlf: He's not the director, but as far as I know he's still in control of the movies and the Star Wars universe. If I'm wrong there is hope for this movie.
Nope. He sold everything pertaining to the Star Wars franchise, as well as everything else that belonged to LucasFilm.

The bad news is, Disney is now in control of the franchise, and J.J. Abrams is directing the new film.

tinyE: Wait a minute, he had nothing to do with it and a lot of people said the prequels sucked because he had something to do with those. So which is it?

You are. George Lucas sold everything related to Star Wars (for 4 billion US$), doesn't want to have anything to do with Star Wars any more and is enjoying his retirement.

Actually he raised a HUGE stink because he wasn't allowed any input. He admitted today that he saw the movie and thought it was pretty good, but he hasn't been shy about how pissed he is regarding being shut out of the production.

tinyE: XD All things are relative. I'm sure it was better than "A Very Brady Christmas". :P
If i'm perfectly honest, I'd still rather sit through the Holiday Special again than Attack of the Clones.
At least the former had Bea Arthur and a (rather bizarrely animated) cartoon about the main characters from the films meeting Boba Fett.

IMDB still lists him as writer (characters) for this and the upcoming movies. I guess it just means that he invented most of the characters then?

Yeah, that's what it means. The movie itself will probably credit him with "based on characters created by George Lucas".
This movie won't suck! *performing Jedi mind trick gesture*

Yes. Some of the old characters re-appear, as you know. So he's the writer for them.

What do you wiggle your hands - do you think your a Jedi or what ;-)?
The new Star Wars film will suck because it can never fulfil the enormous expectations evoked by the hype.

"This is not the thread you wanted to write." *wiggle the hand again* :)

tinyE: Who cares if it sucks, it's Star Wars!

I can't believe I've never seen this before! I don't know if Peter Pan Live or this is better.

Then I guess we should thank the prequels for making us expect the worst :D

Honestly, here's the beautiful thing about it- while I don't really expect it to be as bad as the prequels, I don't really care. It might just be the worst movie ever made, and it won't hurt me. Star Wars lost the capacity to hurt me a long time ago. Like with the Hobbit- the second movie had me raging, foaming at the mouth at how bad it was, but the third one? I was laughing my ass off, free of care, because all the damage was already done. Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose :)
