I'm not quite sure what you're laying down here. GOG's Linux support is begrudging at best, as GOG refuses often to engage with open technologies on any reliable level.

Valve on the other hand, has an entire hardware platform and support system, plus they're fielding development of a mass of technologies.

DRMd OS with DRM-Free games, or DRM-Free OS with DRMd games. Pick your poison I guess. I still think DRM-Free games are more important. Windows DRM is easy to overcome and telemetry and junk can be stripped away too.

I never tolerated Steam.

Steam breaks basic principles of computer security. You dont want a program on your computer that can download software from some other system without prompting you. Not even Microsoft does that, and for good reason.

Steam is a classical Trojan Horse.

And later Steam even attained monopoly power that the company of course happily exploits ever since, too. And the customers act as if thats okay. Because ... ???

When Skyrim came out, I was SURE to buy it. It was a complete nobrainer. I had played Morrrowind, I had played Oblivion, so surely I'd play Skyrim, too ! But then they decided they wanted to exploit their monopoly power and force Steam on their customers.

And it made no sense whatsoever. Bethesda never had a problem with piracy in the first place. They didnt needed some super secure copy protection.

Anyway I figured they think my money stinks, so I moved on. *shrug*

So yeah, Steam does this or that thing better - who the F cares ?

I'm not sure what it is about the UI of the steam client, but it irks me and i hate it.

Maybe because its UI is a cluttered mess of 17 different design philosophies held together by duct tape and earwax.

It is secure. They can download any software on your computer without any prompt, and not tell you about it.

They can completely control your computer whenever they want to.

It doesnt get more secure than that. For them, anyway.

Maybe. I hated the design back in 2013...
