I have this ongoing problem with my USB wireless routers.....

What happens is that while playing a game, whether it be using internet or not! The game will crash at the same moment the router is disengaged?

What do i mean by disengaged? The computer thinks its not there, even if i restart, its still not there, yet light on the router is showing powered up.

I have to unplug and re-plug and immediately it will work again.

I have over time purchased 3 different brands of router, but exactly the same thing keeps happening, so its not the router itself.

These crashes with router disconnect are sometimes quite nasty.... sometimes the computer will freeze, even cntrl alt delete wont work, or sometimes the computer will restart on its own!!! Sometimes game sounds will go all crackly just before the crash too.

There is never any crash report or log on these events.

One other interesting thing.... before i run a game, if i unplug and re-plug the router, i never get the crash?
What i mean is, after i turn the computer on, and the router is working and i run a game without touching the router, i can get the crash. If however, after starting the computer and the router is working, but i still unplug it and replug it anyway, then run my game, i NEVER get the crash...... how weird is that?????

I'm thinking i might solve the problem by getting a router that connects via Ethernet port not USB port?

Ethernet will probably be more reliable for you.

But you really shouldn't be having these issues, have you updated your motherboard drivers?

And I don't mean Windows update but from the manufacturer's site.

You can also check Event Viewer (don't use W10, but I'm sure it's still there) and see if there's an error code or details.

Yea, it only crashes when playing a game. And the interesting thing, it does sometimes do the router crash for games not using the internet! but that event is much rarer - its the games using the internet that crash every time if i forget to replug the router before starting the game.

The problem is that i am too lazy to open my case and see what motherboard it is..... and no way in hell will stupid windows 10 say anything about it, and believe me, i have looked everywhere! .... but yes, i know that is not saying much because of how supremely well hidden everything is in windows 10

I defy you to access 'control panel' without using Cortana search? Go on, do it?? Yea, that's right, not happening.

Right click on the "Windows" button in the bottom left, and select "Run". Type "dxdiag" (without the quote marks), and and then "OK". You should be able to view all your system specs, including your motherboard (System)manufacturer and model number

edit: also, as Kleetus above mentioned, CPU-Z will give you all that info as well, and it's free

I vaguely remember its an 'Aopen' motherboard.... a system i built myself three years ago.

Wheras with my memory, frankly i am pleasantly surprised every day that i wake up and can remember how to dress myself!!!!!!!!!!!!

The worst thing about having a bad memory is when it is not quite bad enough to let you forget you have a bad memory! That way you get to walk around remembering that you have a dog turd in your skull where your brain should be.

My memory may be failing, but I recall Aopen stopped making motherboards a number of years ago, certainly more than three.

They made good boards in their day. No explanation required, I've never really considered you normal.

Thats funny, i googled 'what happened to aopen motherboards' and got nothing relevant?

I also googled just 'Aopen Motherboards' and still found no mention they stoped making motherboards.

You would think a major company stopped making motherboards would generate significant online chatter, but nothing?

I think it was kinda weird when it happened, Acer bought them at one stage then they split and focused on other components.

Wikipedia says Aopen was incorporated in 1996 as a subsidiary of Acer - it doesn't say what form of the company existed before that, if any which Acer bought?

I never new Acer owned them until today anyway..... if i had know that, i probably would never have bought Aopen motherboards at all! lol..... Not that there is anything wrong with Acer, but their like Hyundai vehicles - reliable and good value for money but its no what i am looking for, because what i want is a Toyota.

dxdiag did not report motherboard information... just said something like "oem to report"

Installed CPU-Z, reported motherboard no problem! Further proving dxdiag being stupid for no good reason.

Guess perhaps it depends on the OS....on Win10, it shows mine...the make, MSI, and the model number *shrugs* Anyway, glad to hear CPU-Z got the job done for you. It's a great app for accessing you machines info. That said, hope this leads to solving your wireless router problem.
