User2570289: Downvoting in a thread is not the same as writing a game review with few stars. While the former can simply mean a disagreement with the writer, the latter has a huge impact on sales for GoG and the developers.
I'd say they are the same, because they are both forms of trolling.

And downvoting threads/posts can certainly also have a huge impact on sales for GOG and the developers, because the victims of the downvoting will likely stop buying lots of games on GOG due to them having been cyber-bullied and made to feel unwelcome on GOG, by way of GOG allowing the "downvoting" system to continue to exist (really, GOG should abolish it 100% in order to prevent such cyber-bullying from occurring on the GOG platform).

And maybe some of those victims of downvoting cyber-bullying are "whales" too, who would otherwise have bought tons of games on GOG.

Perhaps the value of a given vote should be tied to how much money the voter has spent? While such a system favors whales, it would at least prevent dummy accounts from having voting power. $10 = +1 vote, $100 = +5 votes, $1,000 = +10. Something like that.

Wishmaster777: I guess that you have made someone feel butthurt in the forum. Now he/she keeps dropping the salt in the form of downvotes whenever he/she sees your comments. Let's just say that I did make someone feel the same way, and it feels so good. I get occasional downvotes here and there. But I think it is not just the average Gog user, I think that some Gog staff is doing that as a form of punishment re-educational measures, like in communist regimes. Whenever they ban me, they drop like 5 or 10 of my reputation points. And I guess that there is the same person that has several accounts, each with over 1000 positive reputation points and with cats as profile pictures. That one is very toxic and abusive, probably very bitter and lonely too.

It must be a sad way to pass life like that indeed. Certainly it is a psychiatric case.

Well, that's not what I was talking about. nightcraw1er.488 took the downvotes from this thread as evidence of mass downvotes. In fact, a single person can do that and is not proof that every dude who downvotes is polarizing.

You are mixing forum votes with helpfull/not helfull votings in the reviews. May be the helfull/not helpfull votings have a bigger impact, but even if that were the case, we wouldn't be able to estimate how big this impact is. So why would we make a big thing out of something we don't even have any helpful information about?

I think whoever this person is who is just down voting everyone's comments needs to go get professional therapy help.

Because whoever this person is what they are doing are living a sad life.

Spare me the left hysteria as shown in the video, where CNN lunatics harras an elderly woman in front of her house, by accusing her of being a Russian troll. https://youtube.com/watch?v=LD5yvQSYkx8

I believe there was a OST about thread downvoting, apparently GOG cannot track it r do anything about it. It’s been around for a while. A lot of it is automated. Takes 5 down votes or 5 upvotes to move from plain to down or up rated, so it’s more than one. You can clearly see the hot attacked threads.
In terms of the reviews, GOG recently warned with regards to hitman recently, but otherwise they don’t get involved.
Either way it’s much of the same. You say a and there will be a group who say b, doesn’t matter what it is anymore.

User2570289: @jekehu, do you have any examples? Most of the games I'm interested in aren't downvoted. The only thing I could find is that Gog has a new tendency to release a lot of anime games/novels, which may upset some people.

@nightcraw1er.488, That is not true, but your comment is exactly what you are talking about. An extreme position without any room or mercy for all the people around you.
Sorry for the confusion but by downvoted I meant there were more "Not Helpful" than "Helpful" votes. Here are some examples:

https://www.gog.com/game/total_anihilation_commander_pack

https://www.gog.com/game/outcast

https://www.gog.com/game/fallout_new_vegas_ultimate_edition

https://www.gog.com/game/pc_building_simulator

Edit: It looks like there may be a downvoting problem on this thread too

InkPanther: How many of those heavily downvoted reviews are lazy one-liners with some underlining personal grudge against the game, its dev or the world, instead of being an actual informative review?
Honestly it's a mixed bag, you have long reviews, short reviews, rave reviews, damning reviews all with majority "Not Helpful" votes

GOG desperately needs to remove the voting systems they have in place. They're clearly being abused, which is supposedly against GOG's own guidelines, but they do nothing to enforce it.

How often do you see people being auto downvoted no matter what they say, entire threads being downvoted, or whatever else? A lot.

I mean, look at someone like Orkhepaj, and how this gentleman gets downvoted every single time for no reason.

Honestly, one of the best things GOG could do is remove the user voting systems in place here. There's really no reason for it, and I think the GOG community would appear more welcoming and be a better place for doing that.

@jekehu, Let's take a look at your examples:

Your first link shows me a game whose most helpful post is from 2010 with 687 out of 711 helpful votes. So lets sort by the newest post up. The most recent post is from October and has 1 out of 1 helpful votes. The next few posts also have 1 of 1 helpful or no votes.

The second link is to a game with good reviews with mostly maximum votes. Only one 1 star review that is downvoted. Mixed reviews also have their helpful votes.

The third link also has enough helpful reviews like "Stem update breaks mods", "what fallout 3 tried to be" or "One of the best RPG's of all time".

4th: Latest post: no votes, followed by 6/6 helpful votes, followed by 3/3 helpful votes, followed by 2/2 helpful votes, followed by 1/7 helpful votes with almost no text. So it is indeed not helpful.

I really don't know what to say. Maybe I didn't understand you correctly because my English is not the best, or GoG has allready deleted these "unhelpful" votes, if not I don't know what you are so upset about.

because a 5 star system doesn't allow a lot of wiggle room and that means that when a game is average as most games are these days (overhyped cookie cutters with good graphics and no appreciable lasting gameplay) then it's natural for 'any' grievance to knock the score down to a 2 even if it's largely unrelated to the gameplay.
Face facts A lot of stuff coming out are cheap turn around cash grabs with low replayeability and in a lot of games low entertainment time value as the coming trend seems to be.
Generic VN's and platformers suck; and the fps genre was tapped out long ago of any innovation and has nihilistically turned in on itself.
