This right here is likely one reason. I personally find many of your posts rude, caustic, and/or offensive. For what it's worth I don't downrate you or anyone else. I save that solely for spammers (like those Indian love guru spammers). But I can understand why some people would downrate some of your posts. Not every post, but some of them.

hmmm... i would rather see an X number of votes per hour logged in (and active) limit rather than an X number of votes per day limit.... otherwise people who only spend five minutes logged on can spam a days worth of votes, then bugger off until the next day!

Tbh both ways are fine and would work....just make the limit fair(not too high or low, and maybe even so many ratings per forum section if possible per day).

Also btw they can spam the ratings system easily as is.....a fellow user showed me(a week ago) that there are tools one can use on forums like this to autorate posts by certain users, and it's likely whoever hits some here a lot with downrates is using such tools.

Vote limit per thread wouldn't work as if a thread has few posts people could still downrate everyone they want to most likely and move on. I still think ratings should be public. I think many would not downrate so much or abuse the rep system if they knew their votes were shown to all.

And yeah there are tools for many things, good and bad, having to do with forums and sites.

Hmmm, yea your rite, ok then, you get x number of votes per page!

Any system put in place would need to have either all votes be shown and/or mods watching for rep abuse(when notified a user is being hit with such) in order to work, no matter what.

(Also be ready if you come back to this thread later, as you have gotten some posts low rated already just by talking on the issue & that's likely to go up when the ones abusing the system get back online)

Especially since I'm mentally ill and I try to not be offensive or rude, but if I done something wrong, I usually apologized.
