I mean, you guys never struck me as that petty, but yet, it happens to legitimately good games. And I really wonder why?
What is the damage to GoGs user base if you accept them?
What are you talking about? They release games here, that were first on Steam, all the time. Sometimes the choose not to because they think it does not sit well with their curation (where I understand the criticsm of some users) or their think it would not make as much profit as they would like.

Official reason : since the game is already out elsewhere, it would hurt the interest of GOG users too much... Whatever that means.
It seems you didn't read the reply of the developer :

multiplatform / multistore release is not something trivial. It's not rocket science but it takes work and time, time we didn't have at the time.

He meant to do GoG before release on Steam. You are not reading it correctly.

My guess is it would be a matter of profit. If a game is on Steam first, the majority of people will buy it there, even some GOG users, and GOG would just be left with the scraps. Sometimes it seems to work okay if GOG gets the first deep discount of the game (when it is released here).

thank you for thread
Even though logic would apparently dictate that having a game on GOG is better than not having it, there must be business development factors that we don't know about. Possibly about the allocation of company resources. I think there were some questions about this subject during the Q&A a few months ago, but they weren't answered directly.

Are there any examples of non-classic games that were released on GOG before Steam?
Ah, it's a shmup. Unfortunately GOG is not a reliable store with that genre.

This statement makes absolutely no sense.

It would be nice if someone could convince that dev to quote their communication with GOG verbatim rather than paraphrase it. Something must be getting lost in that paraphrased version IMO.

Can you elaborate? I mean, I know that there is a lot of garbage out there when it comes to SHMUP, but this game has solid production value, it is a bit of a slow starter, but really starts picking up pace after about 1.5 hours or so.
It is a good combination of a looting game and a SHMUP, although many SHMUP fans complain about the absence of pretty patterns. Overall, it is a solid game though. But then, not even Sine Mora seems to be on GoG, I just checked. Bummer.

Andy is saying GOG doesn't carry many SHMUPS.
