You think you are son of a gun? no you're just a colossal hat!
Hatters gonna hat
Unfortunately to fix it (or have an idea what exactly would need fixed) I'd need access to the server side code to see what exactly is going wrong...

It really shouldn't be that difficult to fix, particularly as the quote bit works as do a all the other implementations of avatars..

But I get the feeling the forum code is like this...
Hats are fun.

People starting a spirited campaign for Hat Red to come here in 5, 4, 3...
Well, I'm still stuck with my Christmas avatar. :-P
And the small avatar picture still shows my Christmas avatar from 2014.

The good part is that people are not changing avatars left and right, and I end up recognizing them more easily.

It's a good thing I'm wearing my best avatar.

agentcarr16: Why am I a hat?
I tend to think that a 'hat' makes one recognizable. First impression, making eye contact, noticing something different about the head you are looking at can trigger an emotion.

Think of famous hats, like Indiana Jones' fedora, Charlie Chaplin's Bowler hat, the militant Green Beret of the British Commandos or Red Beret of the Guardian Angels. There's the recognizable fireman's helmet, famous Deerstalker (used by hunters) made popular by Sherlock Holmes and of course, the dunce cap a common humiliating cap for the school cut-up.

The list goes on, but hats are symbolic and can represent many different types of characters and their traits.

agentcarr16: Hats are fun, but one can only wear the same hat for so long.

Seriously, though. I just got myself interested. What goes into maintaining avatars for however-many-people-populate-this-forum?
One can only wear the same hat for so long, but I see today that more and more people are multi-faceted and "wear many hats". Perhaps analyzing the collection of hats one has could be an interesting way to get a 'picture' of that person and their experience over time.

As far as avatars go, I'm pretty boring in that regard. I tend the use the same one a lot. Maybe not the same nickname (as all the good ones seem to go quickly).

What if those people had also been stuck with their avatars for a very very long time, and were unable to have their new profile pictures shown to the forum. *derp* O.O

That was bad, sorry.

Not sure I would agree. I can actually read that assembly language. It's nicely formatted, good use of EQUates (fancy term for constant values) and it's pretty obvious that it just toggles a single bit in a special machine register then starts execution of the main code.

I think the OP's post of the comic was more poking fun at the inconsistent coding style that some people have of higher level languages --in some cases not even being consistently sloppy in the same way at all. Example of that would be inconsistent use of tabs and spaces, placement of block opening and closing symbols or keywords and vertical spacing between lines.

You can read assembly. But assembly 1) isn't a language to code a forum on 2) I'm sure most people can't. :P Ergo, you're not getting the joke.

Fella in the test thread appears to have figured it out.
Of at least convinced me he figured it out.

Great question! Ever heard of the proverb "Home is where you lay your hat"? GOG is obviously your home and you feel very comfortable here, that's a great thing!

Of course, you are not an ordinary hat! A man walks down the street in your kind of hat, people know he's not afraid of anything! That`s the kind of hat you are!

In conclusion, I tip my hat to you!
