Yes, real pause. I played with the inventory open all the time, so that wouldn't work for me, but I just command-tabbed out if I wanted to pause anyway, so I'm not sure I ever noticed it didn't have a pause button. Multiplayer doesn't have any kind of pause, but multiplayer usually doesn't.
Obligatory link to the General Terraria [not "Terrairia" =P ] Discussion topic in the game forum.

mqstout: Does it have a pause button finally?
there is auto pause setting for when you are in inventory, only works on signal player worlds tho.
Such an amazing game. Been playing it and actually forgot the patch was coming out, so excited.

having never done MP, thats a fact i did not know
I've played through Terraria quite a few times now, from beginning to end. I think this time around once this big update is out, I'm going to go through all those overhaul mods I've heard about, once they play nice of course. I'm assuming it's gonna take some time for them to iron out the bugs of working with the 1.4 update.

It will take months for the tmodloader team to update the API for version 1.4. I assume around 6 months at its longest, at best around 2 months.

Not only that, but mod authors also have to update mods after the API is out.
