how do i defeat the wild hunt when he puts a shield around himself

I'm guessing this is the "Wandering in the Dark" quest.
The answer is simple, but it can be a pain. Once his barrier's up, Nithral will open up portals on the far ends of the room - after a moment, the Wild Hunt's hounds will start pouring through them. The only way to dispel Nithral's barrier is to wipe the hounds out - but, if too many of them get loose at once, it's possible that Nithral can completely heal himself before you close the portals.

In 1 he was very easy to kill, though... He even dropped a special item...
