greeklover: I really like these ones from Stronghold

Appy times

Appy times reminded me of the Settlers games so that would be my recommendation. You might also like some tracks from Final Fantasy 9.
I often listen to game soundtracks, though rarely to the full soundtracks. Usually I'll pick out a couple of songs to put in a playlist. A few inclusions:

Elwynn Forest - World of Warcraft. Lots of other zones also have great music.

Age of Wonders 1 : Menu - A few other ingame tracks are beautiful as well.

Targos Town - Icewind Dale. An incredibly atmospheric game.

Stronghold town them - Homm III. Often I'd just stay in the town interface long after business was concluded so that I could finish listening to this song.

Baba Yetu - Civ IV. Best menu I've ever seen in a game.
While I cannot set one, or even a few, above the many great soundtracks I have heard, Treasure Adventure Game OST is certainly up there among them. The favourite track on that soundtrack is easy though, Fight or Fight, but that might just be due to my engagement with the game at the time and location that track plays.
The first Halo game
Painkiller games
Crusader games, especially the Regret track
Jagged Alliance 2
Mafia
Unreal 2 + Theme song.
Unreal Tournament series have also good tracks.

greeklover: And some technical questions.
I download these to my smartphone so I suppose the mp3 versions are enough, flacs won't make a difference on a smartphone, right?
How do you generally organize these on a smartphone? I made a "soundtracks" folder in the file explorer (android xiaomi miui) and extract the zips I download in that folder and each soundtrack has its own subfolder. Is this what most people do?
OGGs (Vorbis) are fine too, most games after 2000 using this format. I make folders/subfolders in my main music folder (using Total Commander for file manager) and play them in HikiPlayer, the best music player for my needs - simple, lightweight and folder based.

tinyE: I tend to turn off music on all other games.
Don't tell me you turn it off in Terraria, you blasphemer.

Matewis: Baba Yetu - Civ IV. Best menu I've ever seen in a game.
A Swahili (if I remember correctly) rendition of the Lord's Prayer. Now, I don't identify as a Christian, but that is a damn fine song.
I like all the songs of these sound tracks but these are the ones that stir my emotions the most.

Dragon age inquisition: Dawn will come
Helblade Senua's sacrifice:Combat theme
Witcher 3:Pricilla's song
French Version Pricilla's song
Mass Effect Andromeda: Trail of Hope
Horizon Dawn: Main theme
Last of us 2: Through the Valley
Prey: Everything is going to be ok
Last of us: Main theme
Mass effect 3: an end once and for all

and of course
Malukah's Mass effect 3 tribute: Reignite

You might also want to check out the remake's excellent soundtrack; it's incredible.

I have more examples of excellent VGM, but don't have the time to go into detail right now. I could mention a couple Zelda tunes, however:
Lorule Castle (from Zelda: A Link Between Worlds)
and, of course, the Breath of the Wild version of Hyrule Castle.

There are others that I'll mention later; too much to talk about right now.

Yeah it's pretty sweet, I just didn't care for the remake of that particular track.

Phew! I had a hard time imagining you muting John Williams' scores!

Fortunately, it's easy to change to the retro soundtrack when you enter the area where that track plays; that's one of the neat things about the remake. All it takes to change to retro graphics or sound (or change back) is the press of a button (or key if you're using a keyboard).
