How did you like it? Have you watched it?

My brother has Netflix and we have watched 4 and half episodes. He's now playing Witcher 1.

I personally think it has charm, but critical score of 50% is right there. It's still enjoyable to watch, nonetheless, it's just not the masterpiece. Lots of cringeworthy moments, but lots of funny moments also.
Sure you're not looking at the wrong title? IMDB has it at 9.1 out of 10 at the moment. I've been reluctant to watch it because I was never fond of Geralt but other than that it's exactly my genre. If the score keeps up I'll have to watch it at some point xD

I wouldn't trust critics much overall but then again I'd honestly be skeptical with audience reviews as well initially as it might just be a flood of Witcher 3 fans spamming the ratings for now. I'll hold off for a bit :)

Critics rating 50% might be due to Entertainment Weekly who gave it a 0 star rating.
The reviewer didn't understand the first two episodes skipped three and four and after
the fifth the wrote:

DARREN: Because life’s too short for Netflix drama running times, I skipped ahead to the fifth episode, which brings the Yennefer and Geralt plotlines together. Episode 5 also features Magic Viagra and a masked orgy set to some truly ridiculous retro-softcore music. I do think there’s room for a mature-content fantasy romp in our post-Game of Thrones universe, but eternal exposition runs alongside a tin ear for dialogue.

Peak current year journalism right there. Who needs to actually do the job you're being paid for?

Most professional critics these days are not much more than paid mouth pieces for the things they review, sadly, or they use their position to push their ideology of choice....praising things that conform to it and damning the stuff that goes against it.

it is usually better to listen to actual viewers/customers stances on the subjects at hand.
Mainstream journos hate The Witcher TV show for the same reason that game journos hate The Witcher series of games - they don't conform to the woke views of these "journos" or pundits. We will see the same happening when Cyberpunk comes out - game journos will review bomb the game for hate clicks and views. CDPR will be accused of transphobia and a host of other phobias and isms.

Sadly that's the state of popular culture media coverage these days - contrarians and whoring for views.
Already binged the whole thing. I didn't have much of any expectation, but I enjoyed it for what it was. I'm not a die-hard Witcher fan so some people may take more umbrage with any liberties the show may take. Henry Cavill actually makes for a relatively decent Geralt. Some of the pacing at the start seems a bit off. It also took me until episode 3 to realize that the storyline keeps jumping back and forth from past to present.

That wrinkly Nilfgaardian armor still looks fucking weird though. Also, even though Netflix says it's based purely on the books, they definitely seem to have taken a cue or two from the games. That Striga fight for one seems eerily similar to the Witcher 1 intro. I assume neither one may strike too far from the original source. *shrug*

Seems to follow my opinion of Witcher 3, everyone raves about it. I tried playing it twice and it was very average open world, usual repeating things. Character stuck in geometry or not able to jump over a twig. Combat simple parry swipe. Just don’t get it. Witcher 1 was pretty good however, and never got to play 2 which seems to be the low point. I have this on Netflix to watch, however that guy I found annoying in the superman v Batman film so I don’t hold out hope.

I enjoyed Witcher 3, and liked the series very much. Especially Yen's story and Ciri performance.

That makes absolutly no sense. The show was already - in a typical for Netflix way - "diversified", with quite a few race swaps and even the Dryads are all black. If any, this is exactly what the journos wanted, when they complained about The Witcher 3 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

The only "woke" criticisms I've seen of it are about the nudity, because we're in a phase now where feminism means covering up supposedly, as opposed to when feminism means the freedom to show it. I get whiplash from how fast that issue seems to go back and forth. Anyway, Game of Thrones got the same criticisms and went on to be a cultural phenomenon so I doubt it matters.

The more serious criticism I've seen is that the show is too confusing for people who never read the books or played the games. I'll find out how true this is when my wife and I watch episode one together this weekend. She has no knowledge of The Witcher at all.
Watched episode 1 this morning... I will watch 3 or 4 more after I'm done sorting my giveaway. I didn't like how Renfri didn't make her threat clear to hold the village hostage until Geralt killed Stregobor or Stregobor came out to meet het in the town square BEFORE Geralt confronted and killed her goons. Also lost the parallels to Snow White and the 7 dwarfs that were present in the original book. But in general I liked the episode, and I am looking forward to more.

Means relatively nothing given the history of IMDb ratings shenanigans. Their alleged algorithm to compensate for the fan patrols/etc. doing votes en masse is a bit of a joke.
