karnak1: Tomorrow is Oblivion's day, right?

RIGHT???

Marioface5: Almost certainly not, since I can't imagine this Witcher stuff on the front page would only be there for a day. I would love to be wrong though.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Nergal01: My thoughts exactly. Then again, there are like five release streams scheduled for this week, so maybe something's gonna happen after all. We'll see, I guess.
Maybe the Witcher sale being on the front page is actually a clever ruse to make us think nothing big will happen this week, only for GOG to surprise us all! I mean, it's probably not that, but I seem to be in competition with GOG to see who can get my hopes up for nothing the most.

Has anyone else here noticed that GOG is kind of weird with how they handle hype? If they hype something up, nothing big will actually happen. But when they are going to release something huge, there's often little to no sign of it beforehand. Before 2K joined GOG, the only sign of it was a single Enigmatic Hint the previous day, which could have been for a lot of other things. There was, as far as I know, absolutely nothing to hint towards the sudden release of Bloodlines. Then they made a big deal out of the end of the Bundleopolis sale, and it turned out to just be a discount for Dying Light. I don't get it.

I beg to differ. I distinctly remember Judas mentioning something about a flood of games bound to hit GoG soon before it actually happened.

Well there was the whole "Flood of Games" thing, but that started back in November. By the time it started with 2K joining it practically didn't matter that he'd ever said it. Judas might as well have said "at some point in the future there will be more big releases". Instead, the idea of an upcoming "flood of games" created hype that GOG didn't really follow through on in my opinion. It took about five months for the "flood" to start, and even now the only huge thing we've seen from it is 2K joining a month and a half ago. So in roughly six and a half months since the flood was announced, we've seen one major release event. In my mind, that's another example of any hype GOG generates leading to disappointment.

It's a Witcher sale. Not sure what you're expecting but it's a Witcher sale :)

As for hype, you guys generate enough of it on your own. Evidence? Why, that list that SCPM posted somewhere in the forum :P

In all seriousness, we don't go around hyping all that much because it tends to come back and bite us in the behind. On top of that, when I mentioned the "flood of games" in November and it took a while to get here...well, that's the nature of our business: things get changed and sometimes it's beyond our control. With that in mind, I hope you can see why we avoid unnecessary hype :)

Hmmm. but there's still some buzz about Tuesday. It would be nice for Fallout 3 to join GOG. :P

A bit of forensic analysis never hurt anyone (especially not someone with talkative RESTful services).

Besides, we've got to plan our fiscal year, so any prior knowledge of major upcoming GoG releases helps with budget allocation, prevents financial collapse, stuff like that.

How about an Enigmatic Hint?

And, you know, the rumor about Bethesda RPGs getting released tomorrow. We can't seem to help ourselves! Some random person on the internet says games will release on a certain date, and for whatever reason some of us can't help but cling to that hope. Speaking of the API thing (SCPM's list), that isn't causing any problems for GOG, is it? As fun as it is to take a peek at what the future may hold, I'm sure most of us would agree that it'd be better to leave the API stuff alone if it's causing issues between GOG and some publishers or developers.

As for hype, I agree that avoiding unnecessary hype is the smart thing to do. Hype (as I was saying before with the flood and Bundleopolis's dark secret) can get out of control pretty easily and lead to disappointment. Plus, as you said, the nature of the business involves change that is out of GOG's control. I remember when Neptunia got an Enigmatic Hint, obviously meaning it was a sure thing at the time, and then it was delayed for a long time. If that happened with a major release, people would lose their minds.

Yeah, I still wish we could see the Hints again. It's been months since the last one.
