Z? I think they are just human-size robots, I wouldn't call them mechs

I always considered mechs to be vehicles that are piloted while robots are autonomous machines.

I'm not sure if my definition is right but I think that a Mech is a machine that needs an external operator. What's not entirely clear is the difference between a vehicle and a mech but I guess we intuitively feel the difference. A simple humanoid robot doesn't count ;) But as I said before - my definition might be flawed.

Exactly. A "Mech" is, essentially, a mechanized combat vehicle.

I suspect the blame's on me :/

I'd love to have the Mechwarrior games here. It's tough, though, because of copyright reasons (even though the first 2 were Activision's).
