Same here, used to plug two mice into our Amiga and play Settlers in splitscreen with my brother or a friend. And frankly I never liked any of the later games quite as much as the original. Somehow it was just the perfect Settlers game.

jkiiskinen: Ubisoft is shutting down Panzer General Online on October 31st, maybe this will enable GOG to finally bring the original (and Allied General too) here.
http://cf.panzergeneral.com/en-GB/news/important-information
Hmm... now that's interesting. The game was launched in 2013 if I'm not mistaken. And GOG stopped launching more of those 5-star games (except for those whose rights they acquired). http://cf.panzergeneral.com/en-GB/news/important-information
Could GOG be waiting to acquire and publish the "Panzer" series?

karnak1: ... Since GOG already holds the rights to Pacific General and Fantasy General, maybe they could publish PG1 as well? :)
Maybe they can, maybe they can't. Holding rights for game A doesn't automatically mean you must hold rights for game B too. But as a workaround as long as Panzer General 1 is not available commercially, just download it from somewhere and enjoy it and if you really want donate a small amount to the rightsholders (if you can find out who it is).

haydenaurion: I tried Settlers 2, but I found it a bit too slow paced and confusing for me personally. Really I just posted that wishlist link for others.
mistermumbles: Yeah, some of that extra stuff I'm not too fond off either. As far as the pace goes, you do know there is a speedup button for those down-times. Post edited September 05, 2016 by haydenaurion

Well... it seems that, unfortunately, we'll still have to wait and see wether PG1 will get here one day. Like one of the posters stated, perhaps the closing of Panzer General Online will allow some new things.
Thanks to everyone who gave their opinions :)

Chances are also that another party has the rights to a specific game than to the entire franchise. I guess it's possible that GOG have the rights to the PG1 game itself (or whoever owned the other General games now owned by GOG still owns PG1) and Ubisoft owns the trademark and they just can't work out a deal. You know, similarly to how it is with the third party expansions to Duke Nukem 3D which were part of the Megaton Edition but are absent from Gearbox' upcoming edition, most definitely because 3D Realms still owns that particular content.

What's weird is how they got 3 of the games from the 5-Star Generals series but didn't get Allied General or Star General. I would love them to get every Generals game though.http://cf.panzergeneral.com/en-GB/news/important-information

jrregan: It's likely Star General didn't have enough sales to justify the purchase of the rights. And PG (PG1) was based originally on DOS coding (DOG PG) that was ported to the Windows 3.x code format. Likely different code variants that caused it to be a redevelopment mini-nightmare. Thus the WinPG/AG are tied together in that redevelopment expenditure. Also the next development wave was coming from Microsoft and it's competitors. It was a very steep curve for the development environments in those days. WinPG/AG were 16-bit focused and scaled tot the 32-bit systems (Win95, WinXP), but not the 64-bit ones that followed. Microsoft was getting out the 32-bit OS support so that would left the sales base even smaller. A huge portion of sales is based on new buys, and new buys are the most recent tech, so image the range of support that would be borne by the publishing company. For the most part, the IP costs are not he major costs, it's the labor. And there's only so much labor that is skilled and dedicated for such a project. CastleRivacheg

karnak1: Now... I admit that for most people the graphics may be completely outdated. But its gameplay remains a true classic.
