Me too...i was really shocked when i read that yesterday. I didn't know that the movie was censored...

I mean it's always bad when such features are missing but advertising it and then failing to deliver is something else entirely....

What's even more fishy is that gog, while quoting the level editor blurb verbatim on the game page, they omitted the words "on Steam Workshop". As in "Design custom levels using characters, enemies, weapons and music tracks from the game and share your creations with others online via Steam Workshop."

The very least gog could do is clue us in if this is actually coming or not.

Oh yeah, quite heavily. The version commonly shown on TV (ZDF, 3sat) has about 2 minutes missing at the end. The cuts are so extensive that you couldn't tell there was anything missing if you didn't know. The version found on DVD is missing about 30 seconds and reuses the horrific 4:3 VHS transfer that dates all the way back to the eighties. Unfortunately, this dreadful transfer is the only version commonly available now. They use that same version that on streaming services, so those are best avoided as well.

There was a FAR superior version out there, released by the FAZ, which was uncensored and in the correct aspect ratio, but that DVD is out of print now and the distributor never bothered to upgrade their shoddy release to the far superior FAZ master.

That being said, there is a faint hope that there will be a Blu-ray based on the HD master that was shown on arte.

Thanks. I looked the movie up on Schnittberichte but there is only a comparison between the cut VHS and the cut DVD which was not really helpful but at least that shows that those cuts were violence cuts...would be great to have at least a proper DVD version of it.

Well doesn't sound good at all and it's certainly interesting that GOG hid the fact that a Workshop integration was planned in the first place. They knew what they were doing. I mean sure i can get that it might take a bit more time to get stuff like that to GOG and i can tolerate that to a certain degree but when we are not getting such a feature it would be required to be upfront about it. At least react now and tell us whether it'll come here (whenever that will be) or not....

Oh, just to clarify: That comparison on Schnittberichte is between the uncut DVD (released by the FAZ, see here) and the cut VHS (released by EuroVideo, which happens to be identical to the cut DVD released by EuroVideo). The FAZ DVD is literally the only German language release worth watching, all other versions are based on the same terrible EuroVideo master.

Alrighty, I‘ll clue you in. You want pictures too? I got you covered. Totally spoileriffic and kinda NSFW - but this used to be a Hotline Miami thread and that game is not for the squeamish either. :P

The TV version plays out as follows: After George goes down for a second time, Kemmer orders his troops to cease fire and swarm out. „Feuer einstellen! Los, raus!“ (1) We then cut to a shot of George climbing over the balcony (9).

Here‘s what‘s missing: After Kemmer‘s order, we cut to George firing two shots into the air as he‘s lying on the floor bleeding (2). He then gets up and staggers around the balcony while spitting copious amounts of blood on the balcony window (3). After a while Kemmer decides to go in for the kill, raises his radio and orders his troops to fire „Ok, Feuer!“ (4) The next scene is the one detailed on Schnittberichte: The cops just completely riddle George with bullets (5), while Kemmer yells „Fickt ihn!“ (6) George collapses (7) and Kemmer walks over to him while saying „Ich habs euch doch gesagt ich krieg jeden. So oder so.“ (8) The next shot is the one of George climbing over the balcony (9), this is where the TV version picks up. A lengthy but very inconspicuous cut, since we ended with George on the floor and start with George on the floor. (64 seconds missing)

After George plummets down the balcony, there is a scene of him being splattered over the hotel lobby. There are a few cinema verite shots that look like newscasters had made them (11). Photographers are tripping over each other and start taking pictures of his body (12, 13). His dying breath moments are intercut with brief shots of all the other protagonists of the story: the shocked Landgrebe (14), Hoenig‘s dead body (15), Richter getting arrested (16) and a relieved Kemmer (17) then Landgrebe again. The TV version stops after Kemmer looks down the balcony (10) and picks up with Landgrebe and her husband arguing on the road (18), omitting the lobby sequence entirely. (51 seconds missing)

Ahhh memories of good old Interplay and their lofty promises. Still recall my disappointment with buying Descent to Undermountain, being excited about a first person dungeon crawl with up to four player LAN coop...except there was no coop, just a stub of network code initialization, and later when I got access to the internet I found out they had ditched the plans for coop, but apparently not enough or in time to stop dedicating half the box blurb to it.

Though, will the Steam Workshop hooks be optional for the Steam version? You know, so cross-playing custom levels?

(I hate it. We're on the same platform 'the PC', AND YET we're looking at 'cross-everything' for games INSIDE THE PLATFORM. Thank you Steam, for ruining PC gaming since your VERY INCEPTION.)

The TV version is really mutilated...and i'm pretty sure that's the one i know. Really hope that arte will show the uncut version soon...
or that it will be released on DVD or Blu-ray eventually...

Uh that's worse because the editor exists just not here - yet.
