Ok, sort of game related and also sort of just random topic.

For context, if you did not know that rewriting files may not always function properly in Windows. Read this and feel relieved:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/file-renaming-when-changing-case-doesnt-work/aa15ff7c-dd2d-4ed3-bcce-799ca90d4e58

EDIT FOR INFORMING PEOPLE MORE:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/when-will-microsoft-fix-the-file-rename-to/e535181f-d1ca-44e7-bc9f-34ad75f5dd47

I was organizing my games. Went to change a few files. Everythings fine. Tried to do this on a USB thumb drive and went....uh oh!

The purpose of me posting this?
I dont like any operating system. They all suck. Some less at times than others.
Discovering a long standing glitch that behaves like a bit of malware, really made me feel uncomfortable.

Hopefully this may help you not have a heart attack, for you regulars that read this.

FYI- Before I took to the interwebs, I confirmed the wonky ass behavior does NOT happen in linux. Yay for that, somebody did well there.

edit: Forgot to mention, Windows 10. Not sure of previous systems, as I didnt feel like booting up any previous Windows.

Also also, if it were not clear, your main system should have the bug fixed. But capitalizing or lower casing the same file name on a usb device may trigger the glitch.

Another edit to add some more info. Seems fixed in NTFS, but not in previous formats like FAT32

I don't have any older machine than Windows 7 to hand, but if you are so curious, "a long time" is at least as old as that, Windows 7. This nuisance has been plaguing me for 15 years. Apparently, the Microsoft staff weren't sufficiently peeved that it warranted fixing.

Heh...first time I ever noticed it today, go figure. Been using Windows when it first began lol

But thanks for the information. Hope it alleviates someone of stress. It gave me a friggin panic attack like "wtf did I do now???" lol
Have you tried formatting as EXIF?
I don't know if this bug still exists today on Windows 11, but once on Windows 10 I had to rename a file on Desktop. I selected this one file, pressed F2 and after renaming it, pressed Enter. Boom!, my whole desktop was renamed.

The worst is that I had many txt, icons, folders, and so on Desktop. Probably around 30.

file-name (1).md
file-name (2).md
file-name (3).md
file-name (4).md
file-name (5).md
...

Haha... not a funny day.
Got traumatized with Windows 10 renaming. :P

Windows Explorer has an Undo / Redo feature (Ctrl-Z / Ctrl-Y).
This used to be accessible via the classic "Edit" menu, but modern UIs hide the menu bar, doh!
