The other day I was on www.gog.com, and found that every game on my wishlist was on a serious sale, but at the time I did not have the opportunity to purchase them. I got back on this site yesterday to purchase these games - there are over 13 of them - and found that the sale was over. My question is.... how often do games go on sale? Is there a cycle, or is it random, or what? I REALLY want to get these games, but at the price they are at now, I think I would have to wait till they are on sale again before I go and purchase them. Can anyone help me?

Which games exactly? Some go on sale more often than others.

There are weekend and midweek sales that last a few days and usually include somewhere around 5 to 20 games. Major sales happen once every few months. Other sales appear from time to time on special occasions.

If you give the titles of the game you want, we might be able to tell you how often more or less they get discounted.

Well, the sale you missed was the big Summer Sale, where a huge portion of the catalog is on offer at a discount, so that's not coming around again for a while (they usually do a similar Winter Sale as well). They also do the weekly sales where some of your games may show up. Other than that, it's tough to call .
Weeklong sales, weekend sales, one big sale for every season, and a few others.

Would be nice if they put a timer on the front page, eh?

I use https://isthereanydeal.com to keep track of sales. You can see how often a game has gone on sale, and how its current sale is relative to past ones by viewing the history.
There is most definitely a pattern to this that you can see. Every summer in June is the biggest sale (this one put almost every game in the store on sale), but there are similarly big sales in the other seasons of the year. Ya gotta be patient for the next time GOG does a big sale, which they will have many months from now. However, you can watch the games that go on sale week to week in the meantime and possibly go through your backlog while waiting.

Oh, also, there is a timer that GOG includes with most sales showing how many days, hours, and minutes are left in the sale. It might take one click-through to get to it from the main page, but it's there.

3 November 2017 - Big Fall (Autumn) Sale

There are weekend special sales, occasional promotional sales and 4 big sales during a year (spring, summer, fall, winter) and a Happy New Year / Christmas sale.

Also keep in mind that it's not illegal to buy games at full price. it doesn't violate the sites TOS or anything.
Here are some help and steps -

1. Go to Isthereanydeal.com. Search for the title you want.

2. Pick the version of the game that has the GOG store inside.

3. Set the game to the discount price point you wish to purchase at (Ex. 60%, 70%, 50%..etc..).

4. Be alerted by email when the game goes on sale at the price you want.

Many posters have already provided you good info about the sales, so I will just add in, that some games go on the best discounts very randomly across the collective sales that GOG holds. While others, only go on bigger discounts during the large sale periods, like the Summer and Winter sales, for example.
Will GOG be hosting a Christmas game sale 2017? If so when is it going to start?

Yes, but the exact start date is still in question. Also a chance of a Fall sale soon after this Black Friday sale, but maybe not this year as it usually comes before the Thanksgiving/Black Friday sale.

I'm thinking we'll get a more robust Holidays sale following the Winter Sale instead.
